Unless Espanada brings back analytics focus for the team, he will be as bad as Baker and waste a very talented roster again.

There is a reason for the inconsistency in this team on the year and it has everything to do with Baker cleaning house basically on the analytics/scouting staff.

Dusty did not make those decisions and neither does Espada. That’s done at the GM level. Astros added back a lot of in person scouting positions under Click (which Brown has retained to my knowledge) that Luhnow had eliminated FWIW

Looks like Bagwell isn’t the covert acting GM and hired a manager no one wanted just so the DAT could melt.

I am no fan of Bagwell's influence in the front office, but there has been a lot of hemming and hawing about "analytics" from both Astros fans and the media over the last several months. They just promoted a bunch of folks to front office leadership positions who have been there since the Luhnow days. They still have one of the larger analytics related staffs in baseball and it's run by a former professor who has a PhD in Physics.

The criticism came from a terrible offseason that was counter to everything that built a championship team. It was justified. Maybe Crane has learned his lesson.

As long as we don't put John Singleton in to pinch in the 8th of a playoff game again, I'm good.

I’m not defending the moves at all or saying the criticism was unjustified

Ask Yankees fans how they feel about analytics.

Even with the virus, this year’s meetings couldn’t possibly be shittier than last year’s meetings for the Astros brain trust.

I could see Omar Lopez replacing Espada as bench coach
