We've all seen the ball rolling foul down the baselines, then roll back into play, but this was the first i had seen, and seeing it in person was even wilder. Reminded me of that old commercial for trick shots on a pool table.

Yep, I can honestly say I’ve never seen that before. The black widow would be impressed.

How is that a fair ball? It landed foul then curved back fair. Sorry for my ignorance on this.

Because that's the rule on balls hit in front of 1st or 3rd. Obviously if this had been a fly ball in the outfield that initially hit foul and then rolled fair it would remain a foul ball.

I'm curious as well. My guess is that it's because it didn't pass the bag before rolling back into fair territory.

MY ignorance on the play was that i thought the ball had to start fair, could go foul, then could come back fair in between home plate and the corner bases. Now i know that isn't the rule!

It was such an odd f'in play, as bad as the umps are, shocked they got it right.

The ball isn't just juiced, it's remote controlled!

I remember being taught as a 3rd baseman to make sure that I touched any balls that were just in foul territory to avoid a situation like this. Of course, I never experience any as crazy as this one.

When the video started, I could have sworn that was Lincecum on the mound.

Yeah there was a Giants fan behind us, and one of his buddies mentioned that he looked like TL. He said that the pitcher is Pudge Rodriguez kid.

I dunno. I think Carpenter’s bunt for a double is better.

i thought the ball had to start fair

Since the batters box is loosely fair and home plate is in fair ground, any contact with the ball is considered starting fair.

This started me on a rabbit hole of going through the wiki page of second generation MLBers. Through which I discovered this weirdness: Preston Wilson

quote:

He is both the nephew and stepson of former New York Mets outfielder Mookie Wilson. (Mookie married Preston's mother after his brother fathered Preston.)
