I've been through eastern WV and western VA and although similar looking areas the song felt like it was speaking more to eastern WV.

Eh there's a few "wrong opponents." Kansas had a great year but I don't think they were beating UGA, Texas, or UNC either. OM and WVU would've been tough too.
