Nashville Mayor John Cooper has struck a deal with the Tennessee Titans to build a new domed stadium.
An announcement, including details on the financing plan, will come as soon as Monday following months of negotiations, multiple sources tell Axios.
Why it matters: The new stadium would tether the Titans to Nashville and position the city to host the Super Bowl, College Football Playoff games and major concert tours during the winter months. None of those tourism draws are possible at Nissan Stadium.
What we know: The stadium will cost up to $2.2 billion, according to the capital improvement budget the city approved earlier this year.
If approved by Metro Council, the new stadium will be located east of Nissan Stadium, near I-24, and serve as the anchor of the recently approved East Bank redevelopment plan.
It is expected the Titans will bring about $800 million in private revenue sources to the deal.
Government funding sources are already known: $500 million in bonds from the state, a 1% tax on all hotel room rentals in Davidson County, sales taxes collected within the new facility and sales taxes collected in the surrounding 130-acre campus.

NOLA already has a dome and the SEC told them to get bent.

Lol. This isn’t happening.

I can't believe a lot of these relatively new stadiums like Nissan, Georgia Dome, and FedEx are so crappy and need to be replaced so soon while the ancient Superdome and Lambeau Field are still going strong. Apparently they don't make them like they used to.

Hey, don't rob my joy of poking fun at all of the people complaining about the game being in ATL every year.

Domed stadiums are terrible. I don't get why you would do that anywhere in the south.

I agree, but isn’t a NFL requirement for new stadiums?

Like it’s not a big tourism draw for big events lol

Atlanta gives people something to do. I don’t know how Florida has never gotten a SECCG. Nashville would be fun.

Maybe to get a Super Bowl, and even then, Met Life got one. I can't blame any team for wanting the dome. It gives you more opportunity for concerts, basketball, etc.

It's all about opening cities up to new events and getting a superbowl, apparently. No one is going to Greenbay for anything other than a Packers game. Nashville is newly minted destination city, so it only makes sense they want to capitalize.

Disagree. Love the comfort level.

I've been to both places. I made a return trip to Nashville and will likely go back more.
I turned down business in NOLA so as not to go back there.

Nobody likes flying into NOLA. That's reason #1.

Ok cool thanks for your one person sample size.
People are still coming here and they are still doing big sports events there: final four, cfp, super bowl. And conventions.

I wouldn't go to a single Saints game if it wasn't Domed.
It was 85 degrees in mid October yesterday
