Which of the position players before 1970 favors pitchers throwing over 90 mph on average? In every other sport it is accepted that the current age is the peak. Having multiple players from over 50 years ago is laughable.

I don't think you can argue these. Melon head can come off the bench and DH if it were an all-time AL team.

I just wanna know, who are the jackwads that didn't vote Michael Jack Schmidt into the HOF? (96%)

1) He led the National League in Home Runs eight times, Slugging percentage and OPS five times, and OPS+ six times.

2) He has the highest WAR of anybody that’s played third base (106.9).

3) He won 10 Gold Gloves while working the hot corner, second all-time to Brooks Robinson (16).

4) 3X NL MVP

He is easily the best 3rd basemen of all-time in terms of offense and defense.

Baseball HOF voting is archaic. This guy was the best ever at his position by every metric.

Yet Derek fricking Jeter fell only one vote shy of unanimous.

MLB has been around twice as long as every other sport and the rules have barely changed in comparison.

I looked up Brooks Robinson to see how he compared to Schmidt. Of course the defensive numbers were better for Brooks and the offensive numbers heavily favored Schmidt. However the one statistical area that jumped out at me was postseason numbers. It appears Brooks just got better in the postseason. Comparing the two:

BR: G=39, AB=145, H=44, HR=5, RBI=22, SO=9, BA/OBP/SLG/OPS= .303/.323/.462/.785

MS: G=36, AB=140, H=33, HR=4, RBI=16, SO=27, BA/OBP/SLG/OPS= .236/.304/.386/.690

I find it funny how all of the "best" baseball players are old as shite.

Baseball writers are dumb

Yeah, baseball is one sport where you can compare the past to modern times because the game has not changed much. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball.

Heck, I watch my kids play on their teams and I am convinced my generation would destroy kids these days. Not hyperbole when my kids play on the same fields I grew up playing on and while we were hitting 200+ ft HR bombs, kids these days can barely get it to average outfield depth.

As far as pitchers, all the old timers say Bob Feller. I've heard so many Bob Feller stories I would be afraid to step in the box against him for fear of catching one in the ear.

The other pitcher is Bob Gibson. MLB had to lower the mound because of this guy. That says a lot.

Griffey was better than Mays. Don’t let an over the shoulder catch convince you he could do the things Jr could do in the outfield!

All-time regardless of era, P W. Johnson, C Bench, 1B Gehrig, 2B Hornsby, 3B Schmidt, SS Wagner, OF Cobb, Mays and Ruth.

All-time of those with most of their career post-Jackie R., P Clemens, C Bench, 1B Pujols, 2B Morgan, 3B Schmidt, SS Ripken, OF Bonds, Mays and Aaron,

If you want to leave out the steroid folks, P Seaver and OF Musial.

Koufax and T. Williams are my two favorite players ever, but Koufax isn’t within 6 solar systems of being the GOAT pitcher, and while T. Williams arguably was the GOAT hitter, I’ll quote the baseball analyst Bill James who said he’d take Musial in the field, on the bases and in the clubhouse, and Stan could hit a little too.

I'd take A-Rod over Ripken if we don't care about the steroids.

Also Griffey over Aaron, someone can move to a corner spot.

Yeah if I looked at it again I might take ARod. Ripken was just so damn consistent though and was immensely better defensively.

I’d still keep Aaron. If Mays was a 10.0 Aaron IMO was 9.95 to 9.99. I think people overlook how complete a player Henry was.

Quoting Bill James again, he said Aaron never appeared to make the game harder than it was. He simply hit the ball as hard as he needed to hit it, caught the ball when he needed to catch it, threw the ball as hard as he needed to throw it and to the target he needed to throw it to, and ran as hard and as fast as he needed to run on the base paths and in the field. There was zero wasted effort and sometimes you don’t recognize the excellence in those situations.
