Did you type all of that just to agree with me? lol

and people really don't realize how good CP3 is on defense.. he has been on either the 1st or 2nd All NBA defensive team for the last 5 years

John Stockton?

Chris Pauls stats per game- 18.6 Points, 9.8 assists, 2.4 turnovers per game
John Stockton- 13.1 points, 10.5 assists, 2.8 turnovers

Yes CP3 is def up there.

Lets compare the two through their first 8 years as a NBA starter

...............PTS....AST....STL......FG%......3P%.....FT%....Win Shares
Paul.........18.6.....9.8......2.4......47.3%...35.6%...85.8%......103.0
Stockton...15.9....13.3......2.7.....52.0%...38.1%...82.7%......109.3

I would say he's one of the most over rated defenders around. opposing PG's routinely play great against him, Mike Conley, Deron, Calderon just to name a few that i know just about every time they play CP they have great games.
You can't tell me if you watched many Hornets games, that you don't remember PG's coming in and having one of their best scoring games of the season against CP.

He's great at anticipating passing lanes and ripping big men, but he can't challenge anyones shot b/c he's too short, and he rarely gives 100% effort to stay in front of his man when they want to get to the goal.
I've never heard anyone say CP is a great on the ball defender like people would say about Rondo or Westbrook or Holiday, or even Conley. There's probably a good bit of better on the ball PG defenders, they just don't get the flashy stat of having so many steals like CP.

Paul has a higher PER, a higher REB %, a higher USG %, a lower TO %, higher Win Shares according to BR (103 to 87 with Paul playing ~100 less total minutes), and a higher WS/48 .244 to .206.

LINK

It's personal preference- both are great along with Isaiah, Kidd, etc. But you can certainly argue that Paul is the 2nd best pg of all time based on what we've seen from him so far.

none of those stats really matter. They won't list those at his Hall of Fame induction. It will be "2nd all time in assists (probably 3rd), 2nd all time in steals, and the only PG to have 20,000 points and 10,000 assists (maybe)"

I don't think there's an argument yet that he can be the 2nd best pg of all time. Quit comparing him to stockton and compare him to Kidd.

they will probably be right by each other in assists and steals, CP will have more points, probably won't have a championship, or an MVP to help, he won't be anywhere near the rebounds of Kidd, and Kidd has a championship, 2 other championship appearances where he was the best player on the team, and he's 3rd on a list for 3 pointers behind Ray Allen and Reggie Miller, has made the all NBA team 6 times and all NBA defensive teams 9 times.

The more you look at Kidd's stats, the more you can make an argument that he may be the best PG over Stockton. IT's just hard to ignore Stockton way way ahead on the biggest stat that matters for PG's, assists

So PER and turnover rate don't matter when trying to determine how good these guys are, but total assists do? That's just absurd. You seem to be arguing career accomplishments rather than "best", as in how good the guy actually fricking is at playing the game of baseketball

And Stockton played for almost 20 years (and he rarely missed any time). No way Paul lasts that long.

However, imagine if Paul had the stability of playing with a top 3 all-time PF and under one of the greatest coaches of all time.

wut

So we can only look at total assists and total steals to measure a player's worth? You realize that teams in the 80s played at a much faster pace and therefore were able to accrue more total stats?

One guy compared their first 8 seasons. Paul is just as good and arguably better than Stockton through 8 years. He blows Kidd out of the water after 8 seasons. One could argue that he is better than Magic and Isiah through 8 years. 8 years isn't enough to be considered the best, but Paul is a HOF if he never plays again.

Paul has arguably the best stretch of any pg ever from 07-09. Those two seasons are pantheon level.

The 2nd best PG doesn't let Pargo take the biggest shot of the season.

How is this an argument in Paul's favor? He uses the ball more yet does less with it.

Paul plays in easily the best/easiest era for PGs to play in. Paul, like LeBron is a stathound. He'll make a play or two a game sharing the ball that creates the illusion that he makes a team so much better, when in reality, he doesn't. He's great if you want your pg to fill a stat sheet. He's average if your goal is to win championships. If you aren't trying to win championships, then what's the point in playing?

Are you saying David West and Byron Scott are comparable to Karl Malone and Jerry Sloan?
