Kind of an interesting topic I've never heard before.

Basically says a lot of NBA players are "jealous" of Steph Curry because he wasnt raised "street" like they were.

Also goes a lot into NBA player views on "lightskin" dudes. There may some racism towards dudes who are not "pure" black, or "darkskinned".

Oh yeah, and also says all NBA players want a white girl.

Kind of weird.

Yes, it goes both ways.

If only the news media would admit that.

One of the problems amongst that community. It's just like if someone talks proper, they say they're acting white and they get shunned by their own community. Misery loves company and if you're not acting street and talking street, they don't like you.

I wouldn’t say they are jealous of him. More like they view him as soft bc of his privilege childhood. Didn’t come up fightin in the streets.

This is not a black thing. More about status than color.

It’s rooted in the connotation that being “light skinned” means you come from a place of privilege (i.e. at least one “white” parent, not having to work outside/hard labor, etc.). That you can better assimilate into white culture because at first blush you can be “mistaken” for a white person.

It also can go the other way. Read something really interesting the other day about extremely dark skinned models who have been discriminated against by other blacks because they’re “too dark”.

That’s just classism. Not racism.

Right, but the core of it is envy/jealousy imo. It's not a big deal and natural, but its absolutely true.

True, but they are basically associating light skin with status. Allegedly at least. Who knows the degree to which any of this goes on.

Colorism is definitely a thing in the black community or at least in some. It’s pretty absurd tbh

So is it a negative thing to come from a good home? And this automatically makes you soft? People who judge this aren’t worth impressing any ways.

This is obviously what Broussard is talking about. Players from the hood think Steph is soft bc he grew up with money. he had it too easy.

If that’s the case, how come so many NBA players admire Kobe who grew up rich in a very affluent suburb due to his NBA-playing father?

Didn't Jordan grow up with both parents who worked and came from a decent lifestyle?

The same thing was said about RG III when he was first drafted by Washington. He “spoke white” and “wasn’t black enough.”

Whatever that means.....

Kobe had an insane work ethic and was the face of the NBA for a few years. That’s why.
