If he caught it for a first down anyway how would making the holding call have meant tOSU wins in regulation?

It was called out of bounds, but he caught the ball in bounds. So the refs missed 2 holds and still missed the call. Any of those 3 and OSU wins in regulation

You got the year right but the robbed team wrong. There was only one undefeated team that year.

FSU was the better team and the BC game showed that. Home team in a close matchup wins. If at FSU they win likely handily. Same as last night. Clemson is the better team. ND just won. If they play again Clemson will win. 11 was the same. Bama was better. Difference was we beat them on the road. Should've eliminated having to play them again but the title game played out like it was supposed to in terms of who was better.

Penn State in 1994 went undefeated and wasn't even given the opportunity to play for the title. It's something that's happened quite a few times in history, but Penn State in 1994 is remembered because of how dominant that team looked.

Auburn went undefeated with wins against LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Tenn x 2 and didn’t get a shot.

That sucks

They didn't do themselves any favors in that regard when they nearly blew a huge lead against Indiana and needed a miracle comeback against Illinois.

I'll always believe that team deserved a share of the title, but the sentimental factor with Osborne, and the obligation to play a not-so-great Oregon in the Rose Bowl was unfortunately too much to overcome.

Let's not forget, if Miami doesn't allow 15 points in the final 8 minutes of the Orange Bowl, Penn State is likely the unanimous national champion, and we're not having this conversation.

That was a shell of former Miami teams and the only player doing anything on D was Warren Sapp and he was gassed by the 4th quarter.

But Miami still had that name brand and so sorry arse Nebraska barely beating a skeleton was more impressive than PSU whipping Oregon (because that was the first time Oregon was on the National Stage - before that them and Oregon State were considered the worst teams in the nation.)

PSU destroys 1994 Nebraska, this wasn't 1995 Nebraska...that team was totally different. But people think all the Nebraska teams in the 90's were all so dominant like 1995. That was not the case.

1994 Nebraska beat 6-6 Oklahoma 13-3.

And then only beat Miami by a TD in the bowl game.

Yeah we've got two top contenders in this fight

83 is a good traditional one

04 - No team has ever played that level of competition, gone undefeated, and been locked out of consideration. Likely, no one else ever will.

I don't necessarily disagree because the offense with Collins, Carter, and Engram was nearly unstoppable, but teams were able to put points on them. Nebraska's defense might've been a bit better.

I just think their dominance gets slightly overstated when these threads pop up, even though I believe they deserved a share of the title.

Not really the 83 team was 10-1 the 1 loss was 20-7 loss at home to Texas who’s only loss was by 1 in the Cotton Bowl. With a lack luster Sugar Bowl win hard to argue Auburn should be #1 over Miami who beat the team that was #1 all year.

2004 was undefeated and should at least have gotten a shot (this is why I like the 4 team playoff) but it wasn’t the same SEC as later years. USC was the best team

That ND win last night got me thinking about 1993.

How the frick did FSU get the nod as the National Champion?

ND beat them by a TD the 3rd to last week of the season...ND's only loss was by 2 points to #17 Boston College the next week.

Voters put ND #1 after beating FSU and then put FSU back to #1 the next week after ND loses.

Why, the voters only dropped FSU to #2 after losing to ND. And then when ND lost the second to last game, put FSU right back at #1.

FSU was gifted Bobby Bowden's first National Title.
Yet you talk shite about the playoff

Hard to say anybody was blatantly robbed of a title. I think it’s more appropriate to say robbed of a title shot.

2000 Washington/Miami - these two go hand in hand. Miami beats FSU (who lays an egg against OU), but Washington beats Miami. Washington’s only loss is to Oregon, who finishes as a top 10 team.

1984 Washington - technically co-champs of the PAC-10. Only loss was to USC. They beat #2 OU in the Orange Bowl. Huskies would have wiped the floor with BYU.

1983 Auburn - same record as champion Miami. Common opponent was Florida, who smoked Miami but was defeated by Auburn. Tigers only loss was to Texas, who had the title sewed up until they fumbled a punt in the Cotton Bowl. Auburn finished the season with 5 straight wins over ranked opponents.
