So, let me get this straight....
Auburn gets knocked for beating 6-6 Alabama by 8 points in what is arguably the nation's most bitter rivalry...
Meanwhile, USC gets a pass for beating 6-6 UCLA by 5 points..
No, someone said Auburn had only 1 win by 1 score, i was pointing out they had 2. Nice straw man though

Are you referring to that 10-1 (11-1 after the bowl game) Auburn team, whose only loss was to the undefeated #2 Texas team (going into the Cotton Bowl) that lost their only game to #4 Georgia....a team that Auburn beat?
read the whole thread we discussed thoroughly and I'm pretty sure Ross and I have discussed this in the past as well. I mentioned in another post that I'm not opposed to the idea that Auburn should have won the NC, they do have the best resume but i don't think they got "screwed". Texas had the same record and beat Auburn at home, but they are just dismissed because they lost the last game. People say the Auburn loss was early, well the Texas loss was after a 5 week layoff.

If the National Championship was supposed to be awarded based on the overall season, then I really like Auburn's argument.
But back in 83 it really wasn't. They didn't look at SOS or the entire the way we do now. Back then being undefeated was what mattered if, like in 83 and 77 everyone wound up with a loss, whoever beat #1 usually moved up to #1. Had Auburn blown out Michigan or scored a TD or 2 they may have "won" it. That may be stupid, but it wasn't really a NC.

That's why ND and Michigan wanted to end their series; they would open the season playing each other and think "why are knocking one of us out of the title picture so early."
It was either you CAN"T lose because there would usually be at least one undefeated team or you could lose EARLY...and climb your way back up the polls if there was no undefeated team.

UF played conference championship it makes total sense
FSU sat at home UF played a 9-2 Bama team and won 45-30
Upside of the sec creating the conference championship
