Guy who gets ludicrous contract terms because of a lack of a salary cap in baseball, ain't happy about a salary cap being discussed.

Everything baseball has tried to do to reign in the contract length and amounts has fallen flat on it's face. Salary caps work. Baseball normally has to be dragged kicking and screaming into the next evolution. This is no different.

Failed to mention that Manfred didn’t back down and the conversation continued without this retard continuing to interrupt the meeting.

This x 10.

Harper is a spoiled mental midget with a GED who knows more about hair care products than he does about the business of baseball.

Manfred is an extremely well-educated attorney with years of experience in labor relations. Not the first time he's been confronted during a meeting about a labor deal. And he's been confronted by legal and labor union professionals who would make Harper wet himself and then cry in a boardroom setting.

The clickbait is "Harper curses out Manfred; what a tough guy Bryce is!"

The reality is Manfred will be in the middle of the negotiations that chart the future of baseball in the coming years, while Harper will be a 35-year-old sitting in front of a mirror deciding how much eye black to apply to make sure he looks good when his helmet "falls off" while running to first base.

If that's any indication absolutely.

No sports franchise or company should “have” to do it. Would it surprise me if Seattle or LA chose to do it? Not really. But making them do it is where my ire gets drawn.

Totally agree. I don't get triggered by it like most here, but if clubs are being made or forced to do it against their will, I would have an issue.

Manfred is a supreme turd but MLB cannot keep going
in its current direction....it's unsubstainable.

Cap is one of the major reasons the NFL is the most successful pro sports league in history.

Enjoy 2026. The last stoppage kicked the can down the road to 2027. And both sides are expecting a long lock out this time.

Manfred has done immense harm to the future of the game by placating to the cheapest of the owners.

With some of the ownership groups currently out there, even a salary floor is a bad idea, because that becomes the effective cap for someone like the Pirates, who aren't even spending all of their rev share.

There are a bunch of owners scared of the money being spent by a small few and they're willing to frick up the whole sport over it.

Full disclosure, I was a sports writer for a lot of years and covered MLB and other professional sports. With a few notable exceptions … the great Atlanta pitching staffs of the 1990s being one … baseball players are by far the dumbest professional athletes.

Sport is already extremely fricked up and guys like Stan Kasten and Fred Wilpon are the major reasons.

I'm not a big MLB guy so I could be wrong, but I believe that MLB has a luxury tax.

Dodgers found some crazy ways to get around it.

MLB has had some form of a luxury tax for nearly 30 years.

It does. And what the Dodgers did to minimize tax is something every team is using. Just at a smaller scale

Every other team doesn’t have the best player in the game willingly propose one of the most idiotic contracts I’ve ever seen, which adds to the ire for sure

And the whole concept of deferrals definitely wasn't put in a place for a contract like that. Both players and owners like deferred money but gotta figure there is going to be some new rules put in place where a player isn't getting 680mm in deferments which is insane

I only wish they’d calculate the tax number on the AAV, not the NPV of the contract. The Ohtani thing is insane but was apparently his idea, so if he wants to effectively take a shitload less money it is hard to police it too much

We will see. I think thats something teams may not want but after the Ohtani blowup from the media and fanbase at large they probably will have to accept. Doubt the players would care too much, even if its ultimately restrictive, since they probably want to avoid a deferred cap

You don't want a cap, fine, but at least put in a floor so some of these crap teams will be forced to spend some money.
