Browns may have to include draft pick for someone to take Mayfield's salary

In 2017, the Browns traded for Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler. The Browns got a second-round pick for their trouble, since they were taking a $16 million guaranteed salary away from Houston’s books.

Five years later, the Browns may need to apply similar creativity to the $18.8 million guaranteed salary owed to quarterback Baker Mayfield. Even then, it may not be enough to keep them from having to just cut him.

It recently was reported that the Browns don’t want a first-round pick for Mayfield. Hopefully, they don’t want a second or a third or a fourth, either. With few if any teams clamoring for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft, the Browns may have to accept a low-round pick at best in order to dump his salary.

At some point, the Browns may actually have to attach a low-round pick in order to move on from Mayfield and most if not all of his contract

If they cut him and he clears waivers, the Browns would have to pay him and he would be free to play for the Steelers. So they might have to include a draft pick or agree to cover a chunk of his salary.

Would be funny if they did it with the Texans and came full circle from the Brock Osweiler trade with this same concept

Yeah, that’s a tremendous way to treat the quarterback who led you to the only meaningful wins your organization has had in the last 20 years.

So Baker gets to collect a massive paycheck from the Browns while getting healthy on the bench before hitting FA the following off season and getting to choose his next location?

Yeah man, That would really show him!

And may even get an audition if Watson is suspended.

How are the Saints not trying to get him if they’re being compensated to take him.

Some smart team will get him and he will be good next year I bet

Saints have a guy that’s signed to play qb who is better and actually gets along with people.
Nobody wants baker because he’s a little prick

Bart Scott famously told everyone that the Ravens and 31 other teams hate the Patriots.

Good to know.

If he’s healthy, I would 100% take him on a prove it deal.
