Should done what Ohtani did, defer payment til he leaves California.
I suspect the FTB will make a strong argument that Ohtani has nexus in CA for a portion of that income.
The FTB doesn't frick around and will try their best to get a cut of Ohtani's contract even it is in 2055.

He doesn’t pay CA taxes on games out of CA at least
Yes he does. Pretty much every state (that has income tax) requires you to pay taxes on out of state income if you are a resident.
What normally happens though is he gets a tax credit for taxes paid in other states.
For instance. If he plays in New Orleans he will pay Louisiana State Tax. He will then get a credit on his California taxes for anything that he has paid in Louisiana.

**if he’s a California resident. Which can be a complicated question in and of itself

Are the people payin nothing paying their fair share?
Look at a fricken tax table….if a mofo is paying 37% (for starters) …. pretty sure that is UNFAIR to the person earning the money …. And overly fair to the Government stealing it.

This includes not only game days but also practice days, days spent at team meetings, travel days (if they involve team-related activities), participation in instructional leagues or All-Star games, and even days on the disabled list.
Fun fact. NFL teams pay their players 18 times a year. A check for 1/18 of their salary after each of their 17 regular season games and the bye week. They are not paid for post season games by the team but rather receive a bonus from a league pool for each post season game, which is a lot less than the average players game check.

How is the postseason pool of money split up?
Everyone gets the same? Or other?

in some of the leagues, they also charge taxes based on state and city played in.
like when players in MLB came to st.louis, they would have to pay the 1% earnings tax for the 3 game set. Some one found one the pirates pay stub, and it showed the taxes from Missouri, stl, and other cities he had played in, who had taxes.

Yes. Having more than 50 % of your income taken for "taxes" probably should elicit some empathetic response from you. That's the point the original post is trying to make.
Really not that difficult to understand.

I think he is trying to convince that Arkansas is the state to work and live to be satisfied.

My understanding is duty days are game days, but do they include practice as well?
It’s basically “wheels down” to “wheels up.” Meaning they count from the time they arrive in the away state to the time they leave.
It’s one reason why most teams get the hell outta Dodge immediately following a road game.

Wouldn’t it be better for him to have some of his salary deferred to the point where he could collect a portion of his salary after he retires and moves to a state like Florida, for example.

But that doesn’t include signing bonus right? Which is a huge portion of the players pay now? I’m curious how this really works, because why couldn’t they set up a company in another state that pays their bonus and manages some of the finances?
