They lost that ability at least a couple of decades ago.
Then why is the Arkansas basketball team waiting to know if Connor Vannover is eligible this season?

it actually won't change things much at all.

I'll wait for the rules to come out, but actual, open bidding wars for recruits will change a lot. The guy talking the return of SMU is not off base. Large metro teams finna eat.

I really don’t see this having a huge impact besides a small percentage of athletes who will have national endorsements with Nike, Gatorade, etc., as well as the people who will monetize social media like that guy who was a kicker at UCF. That Duke soccer player and Marshall volleyball player could make money pushing laxative teas and skin creams like every other instagram model, and players will no longer hide their money provided by boosters.

The biggest loser in all this is probably bag men who suddenly lose their importance.

You do not have to play in or for a NCAA sport. You made the choice. The NCAA or any school is not infringing on anything.
So California, then Florida, then Ohio then more and more states are going to enact this law...is your position that the NCAA will just eventually dissolve or lose billions in revenue by not allowing the states with this law to be a part of the NCAA?

I wonder How much of it is sponsors calling up schools and saying “our execs are going to fricking prison figure out a way for us to do this legally”

It'll likely be a bigger deal for basketball athletes coming out of high school.

So far I think four assistant coaches and two sneaker employees got between 3-9 months of prison.

My group of 8 friends would do a dynasty where you had to start at a 1 star school as a coordinator.

And we played on Heisman. SO playing the CPU could be a decent challenge when you only play one side of the ball.

I remember by about year 4 or 5 i made it to Auburn. By about year 8 i was pulling any and every recruit i wanted i my QB and WR had 97-99 accel/speed and just run crazy over everyone.

But the most fun one we did was a GoT themed league. 10 of us. All started as "Cupcake" teams. And all in one conference. We advanced once a week and over the years turned out D- rated schools into talented teams.

Im guessing a bunch of teams will be going away if kids can make money playing college ball. There won’t be a lot of 18 year olds choosing minor league ball over college ball.

NOT SO FAST.........................

From the article..........."The NCAA has started the process of exploring ways to allow student-athletes to benefit from using their names, images and likenesses."

If this comes into fruition then collegiate sports will forever be ruined. That will also mean that college athletes that get compensated for "using their names and likeness" will have to pay taxes on that along with paying taxes on their athletic scholarships. Don't think for one minute that the NCAA hasn't already thought of this because there's no way that they're going to just throw this out there without any thorough thinking.

If it does happen then welcome to the real world, college athletes and enjoy paying your taxes!

Yeah, whenever this rule comes into play, let’s say 2022, the number one recruit will sign a 3 year 15 million dollar deal with Adidas and then they will tell him to either go to Kansas or straight to the pros. The number two guy will have a comparable deal with Nike and be told to attend a Nike school or go to the pros.

I don’t see it changing all that much except the player doesn’t have to go through a charade or having handlers launder his money.

No She3 my position is that the NCAA can easily file to put restraints and injunctions on these laws that will hold them up for years until it is negotiated.
