...because of Oregon.

Being in a different offensive philosophy can change everything. Something clicked for Nix. And, it changed everything. That likely would not have happened if he had stayed at Auburn.

Sean Payton won a Super Bowl with the Saints. Nix is solid, but give the old man a good bit of the credit.

Nah. He was better at Oregon because he was 1 and 2 years older, and he also had a better team and easier schedule.

Nix had a ton of talent and some great games at Auburn as a true freshmen. He also had some bone headed games as a true freshmen and then was over analyzed for not being an all American as a soph.

Anyone included plenty of Auburn fans that didn’t think he was good as a freshmen were just ignorant and frankly stupid to how a true freshmen with mediocre at best Olines would do in the SEC.

Nah

He was never going to do what he did at Oregon at Auburn. It clicked for him at Oregon and he hasn't looked back.

Oregon had more talent than everyone they played during the regular season and gave him the simplest reads possible. Of course he was going to have more success there.

Ha. You realize he had some great games at Auburn right? So…what exactly did he not do at Auburn?

ETA: additionally, what exactly did he do at Oregon? That he didn’t do at Auburn?

Really good fit getting drafted by Payton. That’s such a huge part of a QBs potential success. Some of these guys who are great athletes in college, end up in really bad pro franchises and it torpedoes their careers before they can really get their feet wet. Nix was highly rated coming into college and Dan Lanning maximized his potential when Auburn couldn’t.

You are getting your feelings hurt for no reason.

He developed as a passer tremendously at Oregon. It was just a fresh perspective. It was better talent…more opportunity and room to succeed. And he flourished.

He ended up being a strong Heisman candidate.

Sorry. That wasn’t going to happen at Auburn. And I say this in defense if Auburn. Auburn didn’t let a Heisman caliber player go.

They moved on from a talented guy that was never going to reach what they needed. And that guy found himself in an environment that was perfect for him.

i definitely did not see him having this sort of success in the NFL... i was wrong about him... he looks good, then again, Sean Payton is a damn good coach, so it's just a really good fit apparently

I didn’t watch his time at Auburn closely but from what I remembered he made the most out of what he could more often than not. Then before his first game at Oregon I watched his snaps vs LSU and vs Oregon and started to believe we could find that guy that was beat down at Auburn.

His first year at Oregon was a lot “oh he’s a nice college QB but probably nothing more than a mid round guy”. Smoke and mirrors, throwing to your first and second read stuff. then his development into his final year was amazing. He was creating plays by moving defenders with his eyes. We really should’ve beat Washington both times that season. It’s sacrilegious to say anybody was a better QB than Mariota at Oregon but imo Nix has a slight leg up on Mariota.

You’re insinuating Auburn let him go. They did not. They did what they could to convince him to stay.

He also did, in fact, have some insanely good games at Auburn.

2020 against LSU. 18/24, 300 yards, 3 TD. 11 carries, 81 yards, 1 TD.

Payton can do some great stuff with a quarterback who is smart enough to play within the system he builds. Brees could obviously do it, Bridgewater was serviceable while Brees was out, and Taysom was decent.

Now, when you put Jameis Winston in the huddle, suddenly Payton wants to retire

Someone in the preseason said that they prefer Stidham over Nix. I can only hope that dude was trolling.

I promise you, when I lived in ATL early 2000’s, idiots would call in during preseason and say, man I just don’t think Vick has it. Matt Schaub looks much better and should start.

Watching these older guys come out and succeed in the nfl ahead of the biggest arm talent guys has got to open up some NFL scouting departments eyes. You need some talent too but it isnt the most important thing.

He plays in the NFL like he’s playing against LSU and Bama every game. For some reason he sucked against every other SEC team but us two lol.
