What Brady was able to do over 22 seasons starting is insane. For example. He threw for 50TDs in 2007. Then 13 and 14 years later, threw for 40 and 43 in 2020 and 2021. He threw for 5,235 yards in 2011, then went over 5k ten years later on 2021 with 5316. He threw for the most yards he ever did in his 21st season starting and at 44 years old.
People tend to disregard his actual stats because of what the team accomplished. But it should be an addition to how great he was, because his stats over 21 seasons were outrageous.
Outside of 2008 when he played 1 game , the Patriots won their division 17/18 times. He led them to 13 AFC CGs, 9 Super Bowls, 6 victories. Then what he did with TB?
Yeah. He's the goat.

Who was better than Elway in the AFC during his prime run?

I get there's a lot of variables that go into being a "great" QB but as far being a pure passer nobody could take a drop and throw a football like Marino

Brees behind all these dudes

what...like 87-94?
Marino by far, Moon and Kelly.
but i dont consider team accomplishments on determining who is a better QB
at no time was he ever ever the top qb in the AFC. not one single year.
and most will say....well he played for a team that had a conservative offense yet he consistently finished top 5 in attempts.
if you look at passer rating in that time, he isnt even top 5 from 87-94. it was
1) jim Kelly
2) Dan Marino
3) Bernie Kosar
4) Boomer Esiason
5) Warren moon
what else do you need to be convinced?

Sorry, but Troy Aikman has three SB championships. Should be in the top 7-8, and I'm not a Cowboys fan.

Marino was great. But he was a stat stuffer. Elway dragged an inferior Broncos team to 3 super bowls while Marino was putting up stats then losing in the playoffs.

Brees: -1.65%
Rodgers: -4.18%
Brady: -8.24%
Peyton: -10.41%
Marino: -12.60%
Kelly: -16.74%
Allen: +7.52%
Mahomes: +4.56%
Montana: +3.58%
Favre: +0.35%
Elway: -0.25%
Brees: -1.65%

Winning isn’t everything but the ability to rise to the occasion and summon your best when it matters most are absolutely important to being a great QB. Marino’s flubs in big games go all the way back to college.
Lost with the super talented 1980 Pitt team and #1 teams in 1981 and 1982. 1-2 in AFCCG (all at home) and 0-1 in Super Bowls. Generally did not play well in those games.

dragged how? because the stats do not show that at all.
difference was elways defense dragged him, marino had zero help. marino was 3 times the qb elway could ever dream of being and im not even a marino fan

so it was ok that elway sucked all game because he made a drive at the end to win?

are you really trying to bring up college for help in an argument for best nfl career? gtfo with bro and of course he didnt have many wins in the championship games, his team sucked
elway had a losing record in super bowls....so now it counts against marino but no elway?
in the playoffs the passer rating was relatively the same between the two with marino leading in pretty much every other category.

It’s pains me to say it as a huge Montana fan, but yeah. Brady is the GOAT QB.

Elway’s passer rating in three AFC Championship wins in the ‘80s: 74.9, 114.4, 120.7.

Everyone always says, “If Marino had a better coach, a better OL, a better RB, a better defense, a better towel boy, he would have won ten Supet Bowls.”
Dude had all the talent in the world around him in college and played in the worst era of AFC football and the best he could do is one Super Bowl appearance. That’s unimpressive.

Elway made it to five Super Bowls and won one as an 11 pt. underdog. He was MVP in the other win. Elway could at least make it to Super Bowls with decent teams.
Marino sucked when it mattered most.

Brady first and Montana second is logical.
However, if it is a QB choice for an all time, one mythical game... I would pick Montana over Brady. Dude was clutch as hell. Plus he had Houdini skills avoiding the pass rush in the pocket.

Bobby Bowden called the 1980 Pitt team the best he ever coached against - four future NFL Hall of Famers, including two on the OL as well as Pro Bowlers like Mark May - and Marino couldn’t win a ring with them either.
That 1980 team was probably the best team in the nation, no offense Georgia, that year. I watched them four or five times that year and they were bad arse.

This.
I give Brady props for being GOAT QB, but if 2 minutes to go and I need a TD to win. Give me Montana. If I need a FG, give me Brady.

Joe Montana is so fricking insanely overrated
The 49ers could have won 90% of those playoff games with any average QB
