Marino and Brees should be 1,2 in some order. And Peyton #3. He was much better than Brady. Brady benefited from coaching, scheme and supporting cast. Montana should be way down. Dude could barely throw the ball 40 yards. He came around at the right time with a new offense and they just had better players. He was very average. And he made that idiot Walsh look like a genius.

You evidently didn't watch the NFC championship "The Catch" game against Dallas, for just one example. Montana kept escaping Dallas' fierce pass rush and making plays. Then, at the end he threw that TD to Clark.

There was also the winning drive against Cincinnati in the Super Bowl, etc.

Great QB.

The Niners literally averaged like 150 rushing yards in the playoff games they won off that alone you have an insane probability of winning. Never mind the 5 yard passes than Rice, Craig etc would turn in to huge plays. Or the fact that the Niners D almost never gave up more than like 14-17 points or so.

Any average QB could have won a bunch of Superbowls, he literally just had to not be completely incompetent.

You might be the only guy on the planet that saw Montana play and think he wasn't a great quarterback.

That list has an extreme recency bias. Approximately half were active in the past 15 years, including six of the top ten. And neither Bradshaw nor Staubach making the top ten? Come on.

That 1980 team was probably the best team in the nation, no offense Georgia, that year. I watched them four or five times that year and they were bad arse.

They were. Had two Hogs (Redskins) plus Hall of Famer Jimbo Covert of the ‘85 Bears on the OL. Hugh Green and Rickey Jackson on the defensive front.

But we all know it’s 0% Marino’s fault that they fricked up and didn’t win a national title. Not just that year but in 1981 and 1982 when they lost as the #1 team in the country. Everyone always says, “If Marino had had Montana’s 49ers or Aikman’s Cowboys or Elway’s Broncos, he would have done this, that, and the other.” And maybe so.

BUT… what if a lot of college QB’s had Marino’s Pitt teams? What if they were drafted by a team that had just played in the Suoer Bowl and was ready to win immediately? What if they played for only two coaches in their career who were both Hall of Famers? What if they had three conference championship games at home? What if they played entirely in a warm weather climate? What would their stats be if they led the league in passing attempts five times? What if they had played in what was by far the inferior conference? Maybe they would have done some things Marino didn’t.

Marino was a great QB. I’m not saying he wasn’t. But for people who think he’s the GOAT or top 2-3… only having one AFC Championship on his resume leaves a lot to be desired. He absolutely had the talent around him to win a natty at Pitt and at least make it to more than one Super Bowl if he were as great as some think.
