97 was a split title and they would have been murdered by Nebraska. Even their win over wazzu and Ryan Leaf was seen as somewhat tainted.

Eh, Oregon had 3 losses, and weren't even ranked until November. They were far from great.

They deserved at least a share of the title in '94, but they dicked around with Indiana and Illinois, and it was held against them, especially when Tom Osbourne was the sentimental favorite that year.
