It’s soooooooo convenient that the OP thread title says “49 seasons”, want to know why? Because if you go back just one more year to 50 seasons....it goes to 1970...want to guess who won the title in 1970??? That’s right, The Ohio State University. This thread is stupid. Randomly selecting a number like 49 seasons shows you how desperate the OP is. I could start a thread about Minnesota having more championships (7 Championships) than every school in the SEC minus Alabama.
Ok. After Clemson wins it this year we can make it a nice round number like 50.

97 was a split title and they would have been murdered by Nebraska. Even their win over wazzu and Ryan Leaf was seen as somewhat tainted.
I personally thought Florida State was the best team in the country that year. It was pretty glaring how much more easily they handled Ohio State in their bowl game compared to Michigan. Anyway you cut it, Michigan was very lucky there was not a BCS National Championship or College Football Playoff system in place in 1997.

I don’t think this is a shite on OSU thread. The Bucks have been damn good, even in decades where they didn’t win a national title. I think the game’s obsession with crowning a national champ is overkill. I loved the regional excitement that conferences produced. For the Big Ten, the goal was getting to and winning the Rose.
Aside from OSU, who is the best Big 10 program? Is it Penn State? Michigan? Wisconsin? That’s a steep drop off.

That ‘94 Penn State team beat a great Oregon team in the Rose Bowl that year.
How does being so wrong garner you 22 upvotes?

That was a top 5 Badger game all-time for me, and I've been to 3 Rose Bowls and a bunch of B1G championships.
frick that game, not because we lost, but because I was sold this bag of goods about cool weather.
If i wanted to sweat my arse off in September, I could have just stayed in Lousiana.
