And although somehow no NBA fan will acknowledge it, the general effort just doesn't seem to be equal from college to the NBA.
that is unequivocally false.
#1.-the amount of effort a college player uses to make the same play an NBA player makes is more in a sense because it is easier for the pro to make it because he is a pro and likely a more talented player.
#2-the amount of "hustle" plays(diving for loose balls for example) in the NBA are much more prevelant than you think, just your expectations for what "hustle play" is way higher.
#3 Often a hustle play is a desperation play due to poor decison making. Pro basketball player in general have a higher Basketball IQ and thus make fewer poor decisions, leading to less desperation acts.

The same can be said for college fans who despise the NBA.

So you are saying that because NBA players are that much bigger, better, faster, smarter than college player, the NBA by nature requires less effort?
A. Thats a crock of shite.
B. You are basically just helping prove my point that the sport is less intense and therefore less enjoyable to watch.

I am not as entertained by the NBA. I hardly despise it. Seems there there is a lot of butthurt in this thread because their favorite basketball league just isn't liked as much as they want it to be.

How is that a crock of shite? Basketball, when played correctly, shouldn't include frequent loose balls. NBA players know how to handle that ball.

This sums up my thoughts.

So the quality of defense doesn't increase from college to NBA? Just the offense?

I don't really care if anyone on here likes the NBA. The thing that really annoys me in these threads are the illogical criticisms that are completely false (nobody plays defense, it's like watching 5 games of one on one, no team even tries until the playoffs, the refs are terrible, etc. etc.).
Having said that, there are many legitimate reasons to dislike the NBA, most of which have been posted in this thread.

Thats great, but a thread full of " you dont like basketball unless you like NBA" arguments is equally illogical.

Let em hate the NBA, just means more tickets for me.

I still like the NBA but not as much as I use too. There are bright moments like the Mavs playoff run 2 years ago and I like watching Pop and the Spurs play the game. Ill always be a Cavs fan and Kyrie is a breath of fresh air.
That being said I was able to enjoy the golden years, imo, of the game. A lot of the younger generation didnt have that opportunity.
The first playoffs I really watched was the Knicks and Lakers in 72. All-time greats squared off. There was no hugging and kissing before or after the games. No flopping. A much tougher game.
The 80's with the Lakers and Celtics match-ups will never be equaled. We will never see a team again with the Magic of the Jordan Bulls. These guys didnt need to dance around to get themselves noticed. They were rock stars.
I remember the last year of the Bulls. People literally couldnt buy a ticket, ON THE ROAD. In Atlanta they sold tickets for seats that couldnt even see the floor!! I say an interview with a guy, he said he didnt care, he just felt like he had to be there. WE WILL NEVER SEE THIS AGAIN.
Im more of a basketball purist. I was raised and played in the Wooden days. Pyramid of success. Fundamentals. Blocking out, man to man no switching defense. No telling how many hours of practice I spent hedging over picks.
I still love it but I hate a lot of what they have let the game become today.
BTW, whoever said the hustle level is the same as in the NBA as in college is dead wrong. College and High School players give way more effort during a game than an NBA player.

I'm fine people don't like NBA or bball...but the price.excuse isn't true. You can buy season ticket for what some people pay for 1 football game in aftermarket.

Race has nothing to so with it for me (I'm black) although I'm sure there are white people out there don't like the "hip-hop" feel to it.
My problem with it is that it's just too star-centric. I don't like the dynamics of key players dictating everything and being greater than the team. It's just not interesting to me.
THIS. If I had a problem with race I wouldn't love college football and college basketball so much. You captured my feeling well and you used the perfect phrase to describe the NBA with it being "too star-centric". Like baseball, the season is simply too long as well. It isn't the Lakers vs. the Heat, it's "Kobe and the Lakers vs Lebron and the Heat". I think the "thug" element in the NBA actually isn't that bad compared to the NFL but the focus is WAY WAY too much on the star players themselves than on the teams. The "hip hop" feel with music playing during the game and timeouts is a turnoff for the same reason that people who actually kinda liked old school rap/R&B hate modern hip hop. The new stuff and the new blinged out, look at me and my money style is a huge turn off to a lot of traditional fans of the game. It has much less to do with race (the NBA was hugely popular in the 70s, 80s, and 90s) and far more to do with the common sports fan seeing the modern NBA as all style and little substance. The contracts/money have gotten absurd too. NBA players don't even have to be able to shoot or dribble worth a crap anymore and you get a gauranteed 50+ million dollar contract if you're nothing more than a freak athlete. The NBA game sucks in all those regards.

Nope, I'm saying it takes less effort of a more talented player to make the same play of a lesser talented player, but in no way does mean the NBA player isn't trying. College players make infinitely more mistakes on the court, both ways thus exude more effort to a pro-college fan, when a NBA fan sees sloppy basketball.
That in no way makes it less intense.
Finally, by arguing that intensity defines enjoyment of sports- why not watch college wrestling or the Special Olympics?- those athletes are super intense when competing.

Todays NBA is more skilled than ever

Every sport does this.
Derek Jeter and the Yankees
Lionel Messi and Barcelona
Peyton Manning and the Broncos
Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M
Zeller and the Indiana Hoosiers
etc.

My main reason are these
1. The playoff system is so shitty. Awful teams can make the playoffs.
2. Only 3-4 teams each year have a chance of winning a championship. Everyone else is fodder. The best teams will always beat the less talented teams in a 7 game series. 1 and done would be a different story
3. Too much of a 1v1 game with the 24sec shot clock
4. It's too much about show. Defensive 3 seconds, restricted charge area, bigger court, is all about taking people off of the dribble or dunking, which people love.

bullshite, watch the international game with the same 24 second clock. There a plenty of teams that move the ball. In a shorter clock, the ball movement is also crisper and quicker.

restricted area (which college adopted by the way) is designed to stop flopping. opening the lane is about displaying player skill, not sluggish paint clogging mess that the 90s devolved into.

The NBA sucks for 2 reasons:
There are too many games.
Defense is discouraged.
Everything else is a symptom of these two problems... and honestly these two problems are a symptom of the NBA being run by morons with no vision who only care about profit.
