I think there is a bitterness among casual basketball fans that are CBB fans first. 10 years ago college basketball was a lot better but the talent pool has gone down which has coincided with a much better NBA. Almost every team is watchable now.

A lot of dumb reasons in this thread.

But that's it, in the NFL 80% of the teams have a chance of winning the championship. In the NBA, 20% of the teams (if that) have a chance. That makes the regular season and first few rounds of the playoffs boring.

Especially if your a fan of a has-not team. Why should I be pumped about being a Jazz fan when I know the Heat, Thunder, Bulls, Lakers or Pacers will win this year.

I get what you're saying, it's just an issue I have with the NBA.

are fricking stupid. it's fine if you have a preference (i think i like college basketball better), but stupid not to like both (or neither). obviously, the play in the nba is so much better and that makes it fun to watch. college has the better atmospheres and better fan connections which makes that shite cool too.

It's not cool for white people from say, the South, to like an organization that's mostly black (though, like Port said, there are plenty of whites). That's why you always have the same group of people chiming in and declaring proudly that they hate the NBA as if they're taking some kind of moral stand.

VERY well said Matt....

LOL....so fricking wrong...Clippers , Grizzlies , Knicks all have legit shots at it this year and the first 2 historically have been awful....and the last 3 teams you listed will be lucky to make the playoffs

Playing music during live play irritates me. I'm almost not a big fan of the 1-on-1 game. The race thing may play a small part, but I love college basketball and cheer for teams with predominately black players. I realize these guys are some of the best athletes in the world, but so are soccer players, and that doesn't mean I want to watch.

You can't really buy a title in the NFL, or MLB

really? MLB has no salary cap. NBA at least employs a cap and a pretty tough one. Have the Yankees been so consistent because of a great farm system or more money than everyone else? Now the Dodgers are paying twice a player's actual value just because they can afford to. Teams without money have to develop their own talent and then try to win in the small window before the big teams take their players. MLB is all about money

How? It's not like every college team is like Gonzaga.

This would be a mischaracterization of the Gonzaga program. They have 5 African American players on that team.

Basketball fans who don't like the NBAWTF is wrong with you? I don't get it. I know a couple of friends like this. I don't really understand their reasonings (no defense, no effort). I don't find them to be true. Anybody have a good reason how they can consider themselves basketball fans but not like watching the best players in the world play?

this really should be that hard to understand. i like the nba but not nearly as much as college. i can totally understand why someone wouldnt like the nba.

in 1960, the average height of a professional basketball player was 6'4".

today, the average height of a professional basketball player is 6'8.

the goal has always been 10'.

so, in 50 years, will the average height stay 6'8" or will it increase like the last 50. if it increases, it will not be much of a game anymore.

I'm not a big NBA fan myself but have started watching more in the last couple years as Kentucky guys filter through. I'm sure part of it for me has to do with the lack of a team in my state and a heavy emphasis on college basketball here.

The funny thing is I loved watching NBA when I was growing up. I regularly watched Bulls (especially with Jordan and Co.) and Pacers (Reggie Miller) games. I can't put my finger on it but it just feels like something is missing from the game today that wasn't then.

I was a fan of the NBA more in the late 80's and early 90's when I was a teenager. I don't like the style of the game now. There is no intensity unless it's the playoffs. There is just something wrong with the product. Plus I'd rather watch something else. And don't get me started about going to the games. They aren't worth going to. Now I saw that, but If I were traveling I would catch a game somewhere to say I went. But only just to say that.

i'm a fan of the nba, but i understand this. i think it has a lot to do with the how all the players are BFFs, it makes it less intense/chippy. sometimes you'll get a boston-miami game that's great to watch because those guys don't like each other and play very hard. just my theory.

No it doesn't. Doesnt' play a factor in Football or baseball. I'd mention soccer but I don't know anything about it or what drives the hooligans.

season is way too long
atmosphere sucks compared to college
no defense
more me than team
thugs

Edit: And no, race does not play a "huge" issue. Blacks dominate the NFL too and it's over 9000 times more popular than the NBA.

I agree that most people don't like the NBA because of stereotypes and misinformation. The conversation turns ignorant though when people are asked to defend their position. If I only like watching CBB and don't watch the NBA, why do I need a reason for it? Let me be and you won't have to hear those stupid stereotypes.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the man defense that is played in the NBA. Granted, that when you get beat in man defense it makes a bucket seem "easy", but is is sure as shite better than zone defense in college. The zone defense makes college basketball atrocious IMO.

The only legitimate beef I can see with the NBA is that it is a very top heavy league and alot of fans seem to follow individual players instead of teams. I am not saying that the NBA being "star-centric" is a bad thing, but I can understand why someone would have a problem with that, especially compared to the average NFL or MLB fan.

To a lesser extent, I think you have some CBB fans who are not neccessarily fans of the sport, but rather their school. I would venture to say that half of Cameron Indoor is filled with fans who could give two shits about the NBA, but will watch Duke basketball until they die. I think that is a byproduct of how common place it is to attend college in today's society. Asking these CBB fans why they don't like the NBA is dumb IMO. Do they really need a reason?

Obviously you failed to acknowledge my post saying I don't think that, but that's a major reason why people dislike the NBA.

And to those saying there is intensity and defense is played in the regular season, explain how regular season games are like 108 to 101 and playoff games are 87 to 85.
