Phillip Rivers is the ultimate legacy guy. With all the kids he has, some of them are bound to be good at a sport and NC State has a leg up on each one.

He’s about to venture into Ryan Clark territory and the school will have to address it if he thinks he’s going to come hang out on the sidelines and the student section

I cannot think of much aside from serious felonies that would have AU tell Cam he's just straight up not welcome here.

Yeah he seems to be doing well for himself in what appears to be a stress-free job. Why anyone would leave rambling on TV and podcasts to a pressure-cooker and probably lower paid gig at AU is beyond me

His TV show got canceled recently, maybe this is why he is interested now

I thought I read where he was going to play tonight?

Posted that yesterday, looks like all signs pointing to Hall being on the court tonight!

Per what I read today, looks like the indefinite suspension is still in place.

Without our best player, what could go wrong?

I think he'd be great in a role like Vince Young had at Texas a while back (before he screwed it up). Have him cut his administrative teeth so to speak. Don't know how or why he wouldn't want to do his current hot take artist gig though

So that makes it ok?

God save us all from this wretched world.

I didn't say it made anything OK.

I just pointed out a statistical confusion.
Great story for that guy.

millions of others kill their kids at the same gestational age

Not even close.

Anything over 20 weeks is around 1% of all abortions (in the US at least).

Why she would be at all exited when we know we're going to have to recruit him 3 times?

While you're right, because Brown will be a 1 and done, this is a qualifying case for going after a 5* in a position of need for next year. We aren't a QB factory, we would have to promise NIL and a starting spot. If you don't have both, you end up with the Duece situation.

To be fair we will never know how it would have worked with coaching

Hit the nail on the head.

Freeze, for all his detriments, can get a kid to sign with the program like few others. He cannot, however, coach them when they get here.
You're not wrong, but high school recruiting services have already done the rating work.

Theoretically you could point to that and say "this is what you get in payment and development if you stick around", but to your point I think a third of all D-1 players entered the portal this go around.

What I would really love to be able to see is where every single portal entrant ended -> especially if they left a D1 program and ended up having to go down a division.
I get what Dabo is doing, he actually brought receipts for the back room wheeling and dealing.

I feel like all the other accusations thrown around lack any sort of focus.
It's interesting that while high school recruiting retains importance in the portal era, it's a different kind of importance.

Before:
1. Recruit the best players you can get at every position
2. They sit behind proven performers unless they are willing to sacrifice a year of time to move on
3. There are rebuilding years and reloading years

After:
1. Recruit the best player you can get at positions of need that will immediately contribute. If they don't play you are paying NIL for a guy who will very likely leave the next year.
2. Pick up lower rated developmental guys that won't demand huge NIL investment. They sit and develop and are ready when a proven performer graduates / signs a deal elsewhere.
3. Every year for SEC/B1G is a reloading year, even when whole coaching staff changes occur.

I’m glad, frankly. Someone has to step up and lead.

I don't know about leading, but I'm all for anyone bringing these deals into the light. The more that happens the more folks will become disgusted with it.

That leads to the second point...

quote:

The feckless NCAA and that whore Greg Stankey damn sure won’t do it

NCAA can't do anything about it cause the court system slapped them down every single time. SEC and B1G are likely to split off and create their own league with rules, but they would need an anti-trust exemption.
While I agree that the Hugh hire was a monumental error, I think we're underestimating the effect of having an active coach.

Under Freeze, there were almost no second half adjustments on offense. Same routes, same calls, same failures. How many of those close games could have been won if there was a coach who gave a shite?

I hope Golesh helps us out there.

That championship was a testament that culture and not $$$ wins

I would say it's a testament that culture can win. The fact that a team like Indiana hasn't won in a very very very long time is proof of that.

Still a great thing to witness though

I knew it was bad for the sport, but this year has reared its ugly head a little more.

It's going to get worse and worse each year. I think last year was the first year we had evidence of guys signing "contracts" and then transferring after (the Wisconsin player IIRC). This year it's even more prevalent.

Eventually the sport will bottom out and either congress grants one of those anti-trust exemptions to the NCAA or a few teams break off and start a super-league with their own rules which would tamp down on the wild west 24/7 free agency going on right now.
Didn't Duke sign a multi year deal with Mensah when he transfered? Not worth the paper it's printed on.
The most recent example of us getting Chaplin and him being a total bust should be a pretty clear indicator that there is no sure thing, even if you get the proclaimed best lineman from the portal.

No point in hand wringing until the chips fall where they may leading up to the start of the season.
