Always hated the media and got sick of the whole circus. Hit 54 Homers in his last 707 ABs plus led the league in walks and OB% at 41 and 42 years old even after being under the microscope of the post “PED” scrutiny.

He was electric to watch. There is no way the steroids were not helping or he would not have ten them. To be Frank though taking methamphetamines helps a baseball player incredibly also. Helps timing and focus big time. They have been taken since the 40’s

Joe D. & Ted W. both missed 3 yrs of their careers while serving in WWII. Then came back just as strong. Bonds would have gone off the deep end, if left alone on his own for 3 years. I'll take either over the druggie & I never saw either play.

What the frick does this have to do with anything?

Hall of Fame isn't for personal life, it's for achievements within the sport. And Bonds was by far the most dominant player I've seen.

I think it's true that he started using steroids after Sosa and Big Mc had their HR chase.

I read or heard that he thought it was a joke that Sosa was doing what he did because he was an average player at best while he (Bonds) was one of the better players.

Basically, in response to Sosa, he decided he can play that game, too. When he did, he obliterated both Sosa and Big Mc.

In that sense, it's a shame he's blackballed because it seems he was just trying to fight fire with fire at a time when MLB didn't seem to want to clamp down.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I can't disagree.

I doubt Bonds could have scored from first in the playoffs like griffey did. And griffey throws out did bream unlike bonds did.

I almost forgot how weak Bonds's arm was.

He couldn't throw out the slowest human being on the planet in Sid Bream.

and hank aaron was at his best when he was popping greenies aka speed, babe ruth injected sheep testicle serum to try and get an edge, many in the 70s and 80s were using steroids, half the league in the late 80s-90s were using including most pitchers by the late 90s etc etc etc

and guess what, none of that was against the rules at the time, so all the holier than though fricks can eat a dick!!!

Yeah, no. Bonds was better than Griffey all throughout the 1990s, and then he took it up several levels once he started juicing. At no point was Griffey ever better than Bonds. Statistically, it is not even debatable. Bonds just didn't wear his hat backward cool like Griffey did.

If you look at each player at their "non-steroid" peak up through age 30, Griffey was the better all around player. He was top 5 all time in HR (#2), RBI (#5) Extra base hits (#4) Gold Gloves (#1) and Intentional walks (#3). The only one of those lists that Bonds makes the top 10 is intentional walks. Griffey still had more HR through age 36 even though he only played an average of 88.6 games for the 5 seasons between age 32 and 36. To say that "At no point was Griffey ever better than Bonds" is absolutely moronic.

You're selling Junior short IMO.

He was a 5-tool player who talent wise was every bit as good as Bonds. Bonds was probably a better natural hitter but that was about the only thing that he had a leg up on Junior in.

I think you're selling Bonds short.

Someone on Reddit did an analysis of Bonds from 1986-1997 and Griffey from 1989-2000. They chose these years because they're believed to be Bonds's believed pre steroids years (based on Mitchell Report stuff saying he started juicing sometime around 2000) and Griffey's healthy years.

It really isn't close. This graphic also doesn't show WAR. Bonds's WAR in that span was about 91 and Griffey's was about 76.

You want to compare Aaron who played at 180 for his entire career for popping one amphetamine to Bonds using steroids to add 43 pounds of muscle to his 185 lb. frame?

Ortiz is in the HOF, keeping anyone else out because of PEDs is bull shite

100%

Bonds, Clemens, Mcgwire, and even Schilling are not in the HOF because they were surly with the media. Has nothing to do with steroids at this point. Arod will leapfrog the other juicers like Ortiz did, now that he's a media guy.

He had a reputation as jerk. He should have been more jovial with the media like David Ortiz was and they would have excused the PED usage.

cheating is cheating. he hit alot of those homeruns cause he played and was hopped up on speed. only reason he had the energy to play.

so in your example...should weigthlifting be banned too?
