Arcia has hit better than Dansby

They've hit roughly the same this season. Stop propping up Arcia.

The point isn't that we should've kept Dansby, it's just an example of AA overthinking a situation. Arcia never should've been our starter once Dansby left. The move in the 2022 offseason should've been re-sign Dansby or use what you traded for Murphy to instead trade for an actual starting-caliber SS.

Arcia is definitely a gold glove caliber SS.

Advanced metrics say otherwise.

I don't mind not going all in on free agency. Those moves end up burning teams far, far, far more often than not. I was really surprised he apparently wasn't willing to match what the Cardinals offered Sonny Gray, though.

I don't expect us to ever be involved for major free agents, but you can make the argument that we've given up more assets in the last few years than we would have had we played the FA market a little more.

The Olson and Murphy acquisitions alone we signed them to big contracts in addition to having to first give up a lot of trade assets just to negotiate those deals.

At least the Braves didn’t sign a stud SS like the Mets. He’s hitting .197.

Francisco Lindor signed a 10 year , $341,000,000 contract with the New York Mets

Oof

Meanwhile the Braves have 19 hits so far today. I’m going to take this is a good sign the lineup is heating up.

I don’t follow the defensive metrics, but this has Orlando at #2. Is that ranked second and is this a good metric?

I'm not denying that he has been good defensively the first two months. I've said as much. If he keeps it up all season, I'll eat crow.

Last year though as a full-time starter, he was middle of the pack, which was in line with what he had been his entire MLB career.

CJ and Francoeur are such different color guys. CJ is a freaking talking computer with some great statistical insight with a stiff delivery. Frenchie is like the opposite of that.

Middle of the pack for $3 million is great.

From the NYT-

At the plate, Arcia’s .731 OPS since the beginning of the 2023 season ranked 10th among MLB shortstops with a minimum of 500 plate appearances, just ahead of Swanson’s .727 in that span, and Arcia’s 98 weighted runs created-plus (wRC+) was just behind Swanson’s 101.

Orlando isn’t an elite SS in the field, by any means, but this year has been a noticeable improvement.

Yeah, I’m fine with both those guys, but the radio broadcast is much better.

We have to be near the bottom of the league in average runs per inning when the leadoff guy reaches.

Acuna has been on everything tonight. Good sign even though only 1 hit to show.

I like CJ, but I don't need an advanced stats class during a baseball broadcast. I'd rather read about that stuff. I like when broadcasters sound like a few buddies having a beer watching the game at a bar. Gaudin and Francoeur are awesome at that.

I think Gaudin and CJ just called out the TD ATL Thread.

Agree. That’s what I dislike about the ESPN broadcast. They try to cram far too much information into the broadcast.

I shudder to think about where this team would be without Chris Sale right now. Legitimately a better pitcher than anyone who AA could have signed in free agency, and Boston is paying his entire salary this season. We have Sale for another two seasons (2026 club option) after this, too. He looks incredible.

Yep. Really would've been nice to see what a Strider/Fried/Sale postseason rotation could've done.
