If you have never seen Garrett charge the Pirates dugout, or haven’t seen it in awhile, here it is for you in all of its glory.

I want someone on this team who would flat out stomp a mud hole in someone’s arse when someone pulls shite like Harper did. Give me someone like Amir Garrett who would charge a whole damn dugout when they talked shite, or Yasiel Puig who took zero shite from anyone, or Rougned Odor who popped Joey Bats in the mouth. I want a hockey enforcer on this baseball team. I don’t care if they are worth a shite at this point or not. That team needs someone with a set of balls, in a bad way.

Well you got your wish in Sale.

I think Kalenic has some of that in him, also.

I do think Riley will be that guy down the road.

How do you even quantify this?

You can’t do that with numbers, but I guess it’s a clubhouse leadership thing.

The leadership in the clubhouse isn't a problem.

This is from the mlb trade rumors article previously linked:

quote:

There’s also the competitive balance tax to consider. Under the current collective bargaining agreement, a player’s CBT hit is recalculated when he is traded to reflect what remains of the contract. That means that Sale was going to have a $27.5MM CBT hit prior to this deal, with the Sox absorbing $17MM of that. But that will now drop to $19MM, leaving just $2MM on Atlanta’s CBT ledger this year but $19MM next year.

So he’s only going to cost Atlanta $2 mill vs the CBT this year.

quote:

Going into today, the club’s CBT figure was at $276MM, per Roster Resource. That’s right against the third tax threshold of $277MM, which is a notable line to cross. Clubs that go over the third threshold have their top pick in the next draft pushed back by 10 slots, in addition to an increased tax rate. By lowering Sale’s CBT hit, the club will have a bit more breathing room to make more moves, either now or during the season.

It could be an issue if we keep letting stars walk. I also wonder how much Wash and EY leaving affects the clubhouse.

But to say lack of clubhouse leadership is the reason we lost to the Phillies is just grasping for answers. You don't put together the season we had last year if you are devoid of clubhouse leadership.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said (said during the season, said it at the end of the season, said during the NLDS), the Phillies matchup to us really fricking well. They had better starting pitching, better bullpen and the closest thing in MLB to our offense once Harper got healthy and Turner got his head out of his arse.

No doubt in my mind that we make the World Series last year if we somehow avoided Philly.

Its quite an ingenuous extension. Sale will only cost the Braves $11 mil for 2 seasons and now they have room for Righty OF and the trade deadline.

Wash leaving hurts no doubt, but as long as Ozzie is in that clubhouse I'm not worried about it.

Agree w/all of this.

We lost because our so called star pitcher got a freaking blister for the only games that mattered. Soft as charmin. And his wing man Morton decided to bail the last month of the season as well. You can talk about the bats going cold but when the young stars see the veterans bail on the season they all laid down. We need guys who actually want to win ball games and not just go thru the motions for empty season stats - I’m looking at you Fried.

Yeah, because that was the biggest culprit.

Your takes aren't bad at all. Especially compared to that guy.

Hell I have shitty takes in here most of the time but nothing compares to that guy.

I bet if we dug into your post history you've called players and teams soft minimum 50 times

Funny because right after you said this:

You go on to say things like a team has a "mental edge" that there "definitely isnt a leadership problem". Are those quantifiable?

You know what’s funny. Next October when Fried once again gives us nothing, Morton is a no show, and Sale is of course injured, all you guys will be agreeing with me that our pitching is soft. You love to say our bats went cold yet when we all watched Fried walk off the mound in the 3rd inning you completely give him a pass.

But, I’m sure he’ll give us a magical April, May, and June like he always does.

Our offense had the second best wRC+ of any team in the last 95 years and scored 0, 1 and 2 runs in the games we lost.

Lost 2 games where the Phillies scored 3 runs.

Fried wasn’t good but we did win the game he started.

Elder shouldn’t be starting playoff games, I don’t think anyone will disagree with that. But for all the bitching about our 3rd/4th starters we are 0-3 in Strider starts in these last 2 playoffs. No one in the world we are acquiring who is taking starts from him.

At some point the best offense in baseball has to hit in the playoffs. It’s by far the biggest issue. But weird stuff happens in 8 game sample sizes. Not sure why we are manufacturing all these weird narratives again.
