So skill means not playing defense?

The NBA was pretty shitty in the 80s and 90s if we are just being honest

bullshite. Lakers-Celtics finals in the 80s were 10x better and more exciting than anything going on the last 25 years.

Which is why more than twice as many people watched the NBA back then.

I think the 96 Olympic team comfortably handles the 2024 version. Obviously, he's way out to lunch on the no skill comment.

Not a chance. The shots taken by NBA players today are way more efficient. The ‘96 team would lose by math.

The 2024 team doesn't have a single player that could keep Shaq, Robinson, or Hakeem in check. They struggled to deal with Jokic.

And that Anthony Edwards comment is one of the most idiotic basketball takes I’ve ever heard in my life.

And it continues to blow my mind how gen z thinks the 1990’s are like the 1950’s as far as athletics go. There may have been plumbers playing in 1950. But by the 1990’s these were highly skilled professional athletes making millions of dollars who could play today if you dropped them in their prime into 2024.

That doesn’t matter. 3 > 2. They’ll willingly trade post up 2’s for 3’s. And on defense Shaq would be taken to the perimeter and abused in today’s game.

Shaq wasn't heavily featured. David Robinson absolutely abused the Olympic field. So did Barkley.

These threads are always so dumb. The modern game will always be better as a whole.

The modern game EVOLVED from previous years to improve. 1996 doesn’t have the benefit of nearly 30 years of data and improvements. The 2024 team does. If today’s game is actually worse, why would teams have changed and evinced into it? It’s ridiculous to make the argument

Individual greats will always transcend their time and could play in any era, but as a whole the future will always be better in team sports

Maybe they were good athletes but their skill sets might not play in 2024. For one, I have trouble seeing how Allen Iverson fits in today’s league

The modern game is really entertaining. 1996 combines elements of that game with back breaking rebounding and defense. Reggie Miller, Mitch Richmond, and Scottie Pippen could find plenty enough space and three point shooting to field a modern attack.

Hell, Serbia did it with one shooter.
