Save college sports act was going to essentially freeze conference realignment.
This amendment will give schools 180 days to leave current conference.
Most people are thinking this is the out Florida State, Miami, UNC, and Clemson have been looking for.
Of note: the author of the amendment represents the area FSU and Miami are located.

One problem is the GOR, they are locked in til 2034. 8 years. So this add on solves nothing unless it takes that away which I don’t think it does. No team can afford to pay that much penalty.

The funny thing is that its most immediate effect may be to blow up the ACC with a stated goal to protect college sports. I think the ACC still had a few years on the clock at least while the exit fees are still high, but the threat of this bill locking everyone into place forever is probably enough to get Clemson, FSU, UNC, etc. on the phones with the B1G/SEC head office asking if they can join today.

Yeah, I don’t see how the amendment affects anything in regards to the ACC school leaving. Looks like guys just rushing to get an attention grabbing headline.

DOA in the courts? Doubtful. Maybe portions of it, at best. Or after years of fighting. It's a big bill that is trying to cover a whole hell of a lot of ground.
I think it's becoming more doubtful that it passes at all. It's too broad. Would've made far more sense to produce a series of focused/targeted bills to address the key issues instead of bundling into one big clusterfrick so its gets pushback from a million angles.

A player has one opt out to the transfer portal, after that a transfer is treated like it was not long ago. As far as a coach goes, if a coach wants to leave, so fricking be it. There is the fix, simple as that. A coach being paid to do a job VS a kid getting paid to play football isn’t the same to me. Why is coaching football any different when it comes to someone changing jobs for something that person believes to be better? Damn near $4 a gallon gas because of a war that can’t be won because our government is afraid to take off the gloves to finish something we started, yet our elected politicians are worried about college football.

The US Supreme Court decision that opened the door for where we are was 9-0 and a couple of justices signaled that they were ready to go even farther toward the athletes’ side. Fans can get on message boards and hope and pray all they want to for the old way to return, but it’s not going to return because in the eyes of the law this is a business just like any other business, it’s not different or special, and it is going to be subject to the same laws as any other business.

Except now there will be a law to govern these sports. Once the law executed it will need to be Unconstitutional to be overthrown.
At least this is my understanding. I'm not an attorney but would be curious on how this would work in reality once the law is passed and signed by the Executive Branch.
