I just don't get why everyone has to compare Lebrons stats to Jordan's. They don't even play the same kind of game (although Jordan did one year).
Compare Lebron to magic, compare kobe to Jordan. Easy

Because that's not what either side wants. Jordan fans for the most part refuse to believe James is even in the same class as Jordan. And vice versa with the James fans who believe James has already blown past Jordan and would have won 10 ships in the 90s and no-one would've been able to stop him from doing anything he wanted.

How many team USA guys does it take for LeBron to win a title?

I saw someone make a nice point on Twitter this evening - he said he's not ready to call LeBron the GOAT, but if that's your opinion, he's willing to respect it at this point.
I think that may be the best we can hope for with this debate.

That's because GOAT debates are inherently stupid. People try to boil down stats to prove their point, but as has been stated, you can't really account for differences in position/scheme/era.
Jordan was a phenom. He brought people to the game like very few people have ever done. Every kid in the 90s wanted to be like Mike. I don't know that LeBron has had that effect, but he's playing for a completely different generation.
So yeah, nostalgia plays a huge part in peoples' opinions. Jordan is my second favorite player of all time, LeBron just won't be able to touch that. Doesn't mean I can't recognize his greatness.

If we all promise to make our sig "I <3 LBJ", can these threads go away?

I don't think anyone believes he's "blown past" Jordan, but it's not unreasonable to think James is the better player.
I like Nick Wright's argument from a couple weeks ago on Cowherd's radio show. During Jordan's tenure, Bill Russell was the greatest of all time because of his 11 titles. Yet somehow, Jordan was still crowned the greatest to ever play the game even before he won 6 out of 6. Why did the championships argument not matter then? Because people saw what Jordan could do on the court.
Without saying "6-6", tell me what Jordan was better at ON THE COURT than LeBron James. I'd find that difficult considering I feel James is better in every aspect on the court (and off it), quite honestly.
There's also the nostalgia factor where people remember things a hell of a lot better than they really were.

Lebron brought all of this onto himself. He's the one that left the Cavs in a huge fashion and then returned, he's the one that's played GM and assembled teams of his choice. Yeah the game has changed into that, but that doesn't change the fact that's what he's done.
Lebron is a great player and maybe better athletically, but as far as the fire for the game and putting fans in the seat he's no where near MJ imo. Maybe it's the change of times or whatever I don't know, but every kid wanted to watch the MJ playoffs. Not many kids care about Lebron's playoffs.

Fair point. Jordan was the favorite player of a generation or two. It's unreasonable to expect people to compare him rationally with LeBron or anyone else. Boiling it down to who is the better player on the he court is hard for many, and it's not easy to do even looking at numbers.

Social media has a lot to do with this.
Back in the 90's if we wanted to see football or basketball games (or certain players play), you actually had to make it a point to sit down and watch it. No streaming, no twitter highlight videos as the game went on, etc...
That and it's entirely more convenient to sit at home with your 60" HD TV and surround sound than go to a game these days.

a team full of HOFers??? Steve Kerr, Luc Longley, BJ Armstrong, John Paxon, Bill Cartwright, Ron Harper. Jordan had Pippen. Let's see Lebron had D Wade, Chris Bosh, Kyrie, Kevin Love, and Kyle Korver. Jordan didn't have to go join forces with anyone to win a championship either.

Sad to say, if it wasn't for the Decision, more people would be on board with LBJ. It's just not possible to argue against his accomplishments, but his perception is 50/50.
Plus, shite like this.

What? If you're referring to this board, I have not seen this (or anywhere, really).

Probably for the same reason that Brady and Manning get compared through stats, although they were two different types of QBs.
It's still two of the best basketball players of all-time, who play similar positions, so it's possible to compare.

Do you ever think about what the likes of MJ, Bird, Magic would do if they had social media to work with during their playing careers? I seriously can't imagine a more useless argument.

I can't read what he posted from that pic (unless you are just talking about the pic itself)
I can live with this. Jordan was punching teammates in practice and apparently was a ginormous arse hole. Which is fine, but James has been nothing short of stellar off the court and as a role model considering his fame.
Not to mention, Jordan and his counterparts didn't play during the social media era. He's not going to get as much scrutiny because of that alone.

I wish we could just go one day without a LeBron GOAT thread every time the Cavs win a ballgame.

Yes he was. He had to drag Lanier and Walton up and down the court for 48 minutes every night.
