Fake news, fake story, fake history.
Dude was a degenerate gambler.
He had whipped her previously...she won a few points of one game in two Sets.
So then he bet on her and made a killing by throwing the second match.
Seriously watch it...he's not even good at pretending to try.
I think the Networks also paid him to tank the match for women's lib was reaching a crescendo.
It's the most fake sporting event in history and a nonsense story that provided positive feelings to idiots and helped create Title IX (which destroyed sports programs) and the WNBA which we all of course love and adore.

I tried to return several dozen of BJK's serves when I was a teenager at an exhibition. That was not fun. Not fun at all.

When I was working on the Astrodome's historical designation we had a chance to go around inside the Dome and a couple of items they have there are the nets from this tennis match and the boxing ring from Ali/Cleveland

Men lost that day. Billie Jean refused a rematch, as was her right. We just have to live with the fact that women tennis players are better than men. It was decided on the field.

Title IX passed in June 1972.
Battle of the Sexes was in September 1973.

For good reason. Did you know that in the early 70's a woman's income wasn't considered at all when trying to get a mortgage? They said she'd just quit as soon as she got pregnant! In 1973, my mom had to do a lot to get the bank to consider just half her income, and they only did so because she owned the business.

So do you have daughters? Title IX is the only reason there are so many teams for girls to play all the sports. There were NONE when I was 10 before it was passed. Girls deserve the same opportunity to learn life lessons from playing sports that the boys do.
Now back to the match...yeah, I'm sure it was Rigged. Yeah, bad pun. Also remember that at the time, King wasn't out as gay. Tennis was HUGE in the 70's. Lots more popular sport than it is now.

In a recent BJK interview, she said that, after all the years, someone mentions that match to her EVERY day.
Her brother Randy was a first round MLB pick and spent more than 10 years pitching in the majors. Their parents were a good genetic combo.

Karsten brassh wrecked both serena and venus in their primes in an exhibition while smoking cigs left and right and drinking beer around the matches. He said they would stand no chance against top 500 men. Rumors from observers too that some of her male hitting partners could dominate points at will when they chose to, and they were ranked in the 1000’s. Back to the op - no doubt this match was rigged.
