I would love to know how much money Riggs got for throwing the match.

Can someone who was around back then tell me why this match was a big deal and watched by so many people? Bobby Riggs was 55 years old and had been retired for more than two decades at the time it occurred.

Yeah this match was a total joke. Not even that close these days. It would be a slaughter. Equal prize money? Lol

Let's say Johnny Mac and Serena played five years ago. I think that is about a similar age/intrigue matchup, although tennis isn't nearly as popular now here.

I watched it live and it did not feel right to me.

Riggs did not seem to be the same player that had easily beaten the great Margaret Court Smith.

I don’t think he got anything himself, or if he did, very little.

He made enough to have the people he owed walk away pleased though.

It was the 1970s. I know a lot of people think there's a lot of pandering today...but there was a lot of pandering then too.

You know what they had in common?

They both wore glasses... and they both liked the ladies...

...Also, it was the 1970s, and people only had 4 channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, and PBS), so you pretty much had to watch whatever was programmed on those networks or watch nothing at all.

...And, it was the 1970s, and people were prone to doing irrational things like owning pet rocks and doing The Hustle.

yeah Roger that, but Billie Jean K was an attractive looking lady, and not like Navratilova. I know she was into the ladies, but I still would have put the heat on her to knock her down. Lol
