My favorite coach ever.

One of mine, too. That fight has been seared into my memory since I was a kid because I was also a fan of those 90s UMass teams, so I actually recorded the replay of Sportscenter that night on a VHS.

I miss those old Atlantic 10 Saturday 11am tip-offs on ESPN back in the day. The late 90s were hilarious with Chaney, Bruiser Flint at UMass, Jim Harrick at Rhode Island, Mike Jarvis at GW, Phil Martelli at St Joe's, and Skip Prosser at Xavier.

Chaney threatened to kill a coach while referencing his ethnicity and, years later, admitted to substituting a goon specifically to physically harm a St. Joe's player. If he were white, he'd be a total pariah.

I hate that all of the various characters college basketball coaching had are retired (and quite a few of them are dead).

Tell us, wise one.

Cal does great work with the kids, and is a great coach.

Glad we gave him a great birthday the other night in the PMAC while the Hogs violated us.

Mike Skrocki was a beast at Richmond under Jerry Wainwright. Loved watching those games in the early/mid-2000s too.

Chaney was a legend. Dude had a fire inside of him and it transcended to how his players played.

What was the name of that old Philadelphia tourney that had Temple, Lasalle, Nova, St. Joes and maybe Penn St.? That thing got chippy.

Temple was so solid under him. Tourney in 16 of his first 17 years before he lost juice. 5 Elite Eights in a 13 year window too

And the team no one ever wanted in their region because of that matchuo zone. Just a nasty, gritty, PG driven squad that could beat anyone on a given night. Also lose to anyone because when the PG wasnt on they were in trouble.

Seems like these threads pop up a lot with college sports. We are in sad times in that regard.

Exact same here - I apologize to Chaney in retrospect - RIP.
