2024 in Paris and then back to the United States. Nominees to light the flame?
1984 was Decathlete Rafer Johnson.
1996 was Ali
1. Carl Lewis - will be 67 in 2028
2. Michael Phelps will be 43
3. Sugar Ray Leonard - will be 72
4. Jackie Joyner Kersee - will be 66
5. Mark Spitz - will be 78
6. Edwin Moses - will be 72
7. Mary Lou Retton - will be 60
There may be a few more nominees, but these seem to be finalists. Simone Biles will be too recent.
I think the USA's greatest olympian is Carl Lewis, and at age 67 may not be around or able the next time the olympics comes to the US. He'd be my pick..maybe Jackie J Kersee would be the one to deliver the torch as the 2nd to last runner.
Phelps in the 2040s and Biles in the 2060s.
What say you?

It definitely would have been Kobe in 2028.
Now I think either Phelps or Lewis. I think Lewis is my pick because he won in the 1984 games.
