Posey is the only one there who should be in, and he should be a 1st ballot
Posted on 4/6/26 at 8:13 pm to Underwood
As a diehard, lifelong Royals fan, that's a weak class. Posey and no one else. Not even Wade Davis. Not even close.
Time flies. Surprised several players have even been retired 5 years.
I couldn't tell you 2nd best player on that list.
ETA: without any extra research, I'd put Jon Lester as a distant 2nd.

Agreed. I frickin' love Waider, but he's in the class of Hall of Very Good. Good for him for making the ballot though.

Yall are nuts. Pussy is first ballot all day every day.

With one or two exceptions, those guys shouldn’t even qualify for the Hall of Pretty Good. If anything, those guys belong in the Hall of So-So.

Jon Lester gets in if Jack Morris got in

Yeah fans that bitch about the thing being watered down and “The Hall of Very Good” don’t understand that if nobody goes in, it’s a black eye for MLB and akin to the impact of a major hurricane on Gulf Coast beach tourism for the town of Cooperstown, a lot of their annual economy depends on that weekend.
The people who run the Hall … and it’s run by a private family foundation, it belongs to them and not MLB and certainly not the fans …want a steady stream of new inductees, the more the merrier, to them it’s a museum and a tourist attraction not a shrine to the baseball gods.

Hell at this point you gotta put in Mattingly, a shite ton of other guys and just about all of the 1972-1974 A's if this is what the going rate is
Posted on 4/6/26 at 10:42 pm to TheFenceGuy
The thing is, I think I saw where if you literally doubled the membership you would still not be at 2% of everyone who's ever played MLB. So it's still pretty damn exclusive.
I would not lead protest marches if Don Mattingly got in or Dale Murphy for that matter, they're two of my favorite players ever.
The only reason they are not in is that they both had injuries ... Mattingly's back, Murphy's knees ... which ruined their Hall of Fame paths after very impressive but rather short peaks in the grand scheme of things and turned Mattingly into an average to maybe a little above average player and Murph into someone who really didn't belong in the major leagues after 1988 or so. If they'd each stayed healthy for another year or two and maintained where they were before they got hurt, both would have had their plaques on the wall a long time ago.
Koufax got in on a short peak and so did Kirby Puckett (a mistake IMO) but baseball is still a sport that prioritizes longevity.

Posey will get in but he shouldn't be first ballot. Only other guy on the list that should ever get in is Lester.
Same two I would have, but neither on the first time. If they were put into groups Posey would be at the top, skip a couple groups below then there's Lester, and way down after that goes everybody else.

I agree with your assessment.
I think Yadi Molina who will be on the 2028 ballot is an absolute mic drop mortal lock for first ballot, strictly because of his historically elite defense that was in Bench and Pudge R. territory. Peak Posey was great but I'm not sure he's first ballot material.

Is that really how small Brett Gardner’s head is?? That looks like they photoshopped his head on a random body and didn’t take the time to make it proportional.

HOF Candidate-inflation…

I'm as big a Reds homer as you'll find......I just can't see Frazier or Bruce deserving to be in.

Everyone that has 10+ years of MLB service time shows up on the ballot after 5 years retired.. it's not some committee deciding these guys are maybe worthy.
Most will get no votes or maybe a hometown writer honorary vote and fall off the ballot next year.
Posey will likely be in first ballot. I could see Lester getting enough votes to stay on the ballot.

Being a state fan I’m a big fan of Mitch Moreland but in no way is he close to a HOF’er. I still think Will Clark should be in
I love him as well, but the guy was largely a platoon baw for us his entire career!

I’ve heard of Scott Cashmere. The rest not so much

Good grief, that's bad. Lets get Joe Nathan in there!

I'm kind of shocked at this TBH. Like, really?
