We played a double header on Saturday with no field issues whatsoever. I love the kiddie field remarks, 1 HR given up there all regular season, and Jesuit hit 1 each game in the playoffs. Ask kids that have played on it, probably one of the best natural surfaces around.
Anyhow, Curtis v Catholic @ Walker High, 7:00 pm tonight.

quote:. No Jc field was playable just like every other field in metro area.
Didn’t Curtis do same thing last week against Jesuit? Curtis refuses to move away from the kiddie park at Harahan come hell or high water.
Lutcher however moved their game from their turf field (infield only) because outfield had standing water destrehan has a grass field.
Largely due to debacles in previous years(most notably 2016) and going back to previous LHSAA leadership, the current leadership takes a much larger role in venue issues in post season playability and timing.
coop - the main reason Walker was chosen is quite simply it's one of a handful of fields with the new "pivot" turf that is the best sports surface to date and it drains very well.
Another factor is semifinal officiating crews generally travel the furthest and usually have to take off from work on the day of game 1 and since this one started on Thursday, that means 2 days off is another reason to move to a playable field as soon as possible.
I dave11 why didn't you throw BM in that comment too, they could have moved their game up a day to Ryan or Maestri??

Chs tried to raise funds to turf the baseball field several years ago
They have a couple major leaguers that could donate like stingley at Dunham

Hey Eric — let’s not oversell this thing into Fenway South. If you want home field advantage, just say that. Nobody faults you for wanting to play on your own field. But pretending it’s some elite baseball venue is laughable.
At the end of the day, it’s a horizontal football field that was retrofitted to host baseball games. The lighting is objectively poor because — unsurprisingly — it was built for Harahan playground football, not high school baseball. There’s literally a telephone pole sitting 8–10 feet off the left-center wall that becomes part of the playing environment. You’ve also got temporary construction-style chain link fencing held down by sandbags that are in the field of play. That alone should probably retire the “great park” argument permanently.
Then add in the poor sight lines, inadequate restroom setup, dugouts that clearly weren’t designed to handle the size of an actual high school roster, and a long list of other issues everyone conveniently ignores when trying to romanticize the place.
Y’all have a great program. Nobody disputes that. Year after year you compete with anybody in the state, and clearly your players know how to maximize the advantages of that field. Credit where it’s due.
But there’s a difference between a difficult place to play and a legitimately great baseball facility. One is true here. The other absolutely is not.

Years ago… and maybe this has changed bc the money can easily be raised, especially if you look at the recent improvements, they didn’t want a turf infield. They’ve made the care of the mound and infield a pride issue to give the team a shared responsibility of pride.

Cause they play at a college level baseball facility. Not a JPRD playground retrofitted for high level high school baseball. It’s so John Curtis it hurts.

Sterlington and South Beau going into extras 0-0. South Beau is throwing a no hitter

Henry hit his pitch limit and Sterlington scored the next inning. Devyn Downs went all 9 innings on the mound and was only at 91 to start 9th pretty impressive performance by both.
Sterlington advance with the 3-0 win for the sweep

I wonder if they do the same for Vandy and Acadiana.
Double header tonight if Vandy loses pack a sleeping bag and a tent in case it rains 9:30 start time for game 3. Although Vandy manhandled them in the fourth scoring nearly 10 runs in the inning alone.
That late time reminds me of some of those SEC tournament contests that went into the wee hours of the morning.
