I just finished book 1 on audible. The narrator is pulling a Patrick Warburton-light. I wasn't a fan of his style.
I think that’s a valid criticism. I will say as someone mentioned above it does get better. I also think Donuts voice improves after book one as well. I think it took Jeff a minute to figure out how he wanted to sound.
Also I’ve read the Patreon edition of Book 8 and I’m so happy I was able to read it but now sad about the wait until Book 9. Nice to have the audio version to look forward to in a couple of months.

Parade of Horribles is now available through Matt’s Patreon. I’m waiting for the official release so I can get the book audible version together. Be wary of spoilers out there now.
Saw that. Also saw the quote from Matt that he’s planning one more book to end the series, but that it will be broken up into 2 parts, so essentially 10 books total.
He said there would be an epub of the full version available through Patreon in the next couple of days. Will likely read it and then be ready for the audiobook on release day.

Silver Stamp has a fantastic beer list. Very divey, too.
Was just coming to post this. Was in Vegas last fall for a convention and found the Stamp by accident. Spent most of an evening there just talking to the bartenders about Louisiana/New Orleans and working my way through the draft list.
Its definitely divey, but I’ll be back there as soon as my plane lands the next time I’m in town.

According to this interview Initial plan was 10 books, but it is not set in stone
Yeah I’ve seen a couple of places that the original plan was for 10 but I’ve also seen some quotes indicating it may end up at 11. Either way I have confidence in Matt finishing the series.
Yeah just saw a statement from him. Quite a contrast from a few other writers.
“After a full month of 10-15 hour days, with six minutes to spare, I have delivered Dungeon Crawler Carl, book 8, A Parade of Horribles to my editor at Ace Penguin Random House.
*MY* final version stands at 192K words. My first draft ended up at 230K. I suspect the published version will be leaner, especially since I told them 175.
If you've messaged/emailed me in the past two weeks, I will eventually get back to you, but probably not tomorrow.
Work on Dungeon Crawler Carl book 9 will begin immediately.”

Alzheimer’s Trial Match
Dalen this is a link to Trial Match which helps patients find potential treatment trials. Given his age there’s probably a good chance he would fit in one of them. There’s a lot of new drug trials out there so hopefully he can find some help.
Will be praying for your family. This is a terrible disease. Just lost a family member to it.

Dinner recs for Holborn area London?
Posted by borrelia on 8/4/25 at 7:33 pm
Staying in Holborn next month, have our itinerary mostly booked but I’m looking for some places to eat in case we are tired at the end of the day and just want to grab something close to the hotel.
Would be a plus if it were a place that didn’t require reservations too far out as these may be a little spur of the moment. Open to any kind of cuisine.

Anyone else think McNeese will be unable to compete at the CUSA level? Take out 2 years of Will Wade and they haven’t exactly been lighting up the Southland. I guess they expect Matt Viator to bring back the good old days?
I think it’s a terrible idea but I think there’s enough of a contingent that sees schools that McNeese used to compete against like Marshall, Troy, UCF having “success” at the FBS level and think they are missing out.
Honestly I think they missed the boat. Had they moved up in the late 90s early 2000s it might have made sense but the football program is a shell of what it was and while baseball has been solid it remains to be seen if basketball was a flash in the pan.

The fee for moving from FCS to FBS happens to be $5 million. I suspect that’s where the money is going.
Dining recs for solo Vegas trip?
Posted by borrelia on 4/21/25 at 3:02 pm
Will be by myself in Vegas for a conference next week. Would appreciate some recs on good places to eat at dinner. Will be on an expense account so can’t break the bank but anything under $60-70 entree would be ok. Open to any kind of food, not picky at all.
Staying at the Venetian but willing to walk/Uber if needed.

Agree with all the brewery suggestions. Would also add that Belleflower is fantastic. It’s fairly new but went by there last spring and was really impressed.
Wife got me the Other Half collab box for Valentines. This one with Monkish is amazing.

1701 BBQ in Beaumont is great as well. Stop there every time I’m in town for work. The brisket boudin is solid.
Starter Villain
Posted by borrelia on 1/9/25 at 4:14 pm
This book came out last year so I searched but didn’t see a topic. The premise is a regular guy finds out when his rich uncle dies that rather than being in some boring business he’s actually a supervillain. He leaves his criminal empire to this nephew he barely knows. This leads to a lot of confusion and humor. There are a lot of twists and turns along the way. I really enjoyed it, was a quick read at around 230 pages.
I also noticed that it’s already in the process of being adapted to a movie which makes a lot of sense. It’s the same author as Kaiju Preservation Society as well which is another solid book.

Flying home from LGA today and got here super early just in case. I usually arrive early but got here about 2 1/2 hours early just in case.
It’s a ghost town. No one in front of me at bag drop and 1 person at Precheck. Oh well. Plenty of time to feed the kids and get settled at the gate.
