Big difference is Calcasieu Parish School Board allows for kids to enroll at a school they’re not zoned for whereas APSB doesn’t. I never knew that such a rule existed until a few months ago. Was told in the same conversation that it was up to each individual parish school board on whether they wanted to adopt this rule. I’ve never looked this up, so it’s entirely possible that I misunderstood something. Growing up in AP and understanding its dynamics, population areas, etc., there’s zero chance of APSB ever adopting said rule. Would certainly spice up things as it relates to sports, lol.

This is a very gritty Curtis team. They definitely have the potential to chop down Catholic, but that's a tall task on the road. It should be a good series.

STM also has the potential to beat BM. Although BM has mostly pitched well, they have given up runs in bunches on occasion. It should also be a good series.

BM-Catholic would be intriguing in a rematch of last year. BM-Curtis would be intriguing, given Curtis gave BM 2 of their losses this season in a sweep.

STM is probably the team sliding under the radar a bit, but they're very capable.

Weather may be an issue again this weekend.

Doing an article on Centerville (D4 No. 4) tomorrow.

Impressed how they schedule Curtis and ARCA.

Clean I’m not familiar with Centerville. Do they have someone that can go toe to toe with Guidry from Vinton?

. You are naive about the unwritten rule.

They beat arguably the best team in the state the last game of the regular season in Catholic BR. They are a really good program but unfortunately Sterlington is in their division. It’ll be hard task to beat them 2 out of 3.

I have witnessed this as well, have heard him tell his dad to get back in the dugout twice.
Im just gonna put a little prediction out there. Glenn will announce his retirement soon, Leblanc will be named head coach, Shifflett will be the pitching coach.

Walker’s pitching did them in.

Not the best lineup in the state-and it’s not close.
Pitching definitely hurt them.

Centerville has 1 guy that throws upper 70's to 80. They have a couple junk ballers also that are low 70's.

They won’t hit Guidry. Props for scheduling Curtis and ARCA. Let’s be honest though. Lots of teams are getting smart by scheduling these games purely for power ratings sake.

Centerville has zero chance. If they dont get beat in 5 innings, then its a victory for them. They add those teams late in the season for the power point push to try to avoid certain teams in the bracket once they see how its falling out. They dont actually compete with them, they just take the L and the points and move on.

Centerville definitely doesn't compete with the big teams. 2 years in a row Curtis scheduled double headers and all 4 games done by 5 innings with mostly Curtis backups playing. Nowhere on the level with a Riverside or CCA who are same size schools, just in the select side.

not exactly how it works

1) starting next year freshman are eligible at their school of choice. LHSAA has nothing to do with if the school allows out of zone. this has not been possible in years past

2) CPSB is under the desegregation decree so anyone that is a majority at 1 school and wants to go to a school they would be a minority at, they have to be allowed to do so. CPSB is also very lenient with out of zones if the school is ok with accepting them because they are the ones that fricked with the zones. For example there are places in LC where they used to be zoned for barbe, are still zoned for sj welsh but the CPSB in all their wisdom decided they gerrymander the zone trying to get kids from affluent families to go to LaGrange. When people went the frick off, they just started allowing them the out of zone.

But there is not a free for all, but CPSB does tend to think most parents prolly know better than them on what would be best for the school. But also understand that Barbe offers a staggering amount of AP classes compared to most in Calc. Parish.

3) those neighborhoods are in the feeder school district though and as long as you attend the feeder school the out of zone is automatic without even applying. CPSB is more likely to grant the out of zone in middle school too

4) Barbe has 1 kid from texas on the team, the freshman Talon. Talon's family moved from Buda which is a top 25 program in the state of texas. They didnt do it for Barbe, laughable to think that, bunch of programs as good or better in the houston area or closer to where he is from. they did it for his dads work

5) zaylon moved here in 6th grade. I dunno why they did it as I do not know his parents...but shite he has lived here for years now

6) littleton's family moved from sulphur to LC. was it to go to school....prollly but there is a lot of BS politics in sulphur and people dont want to deal with it but the move from Sulphur to LC is actually a really common move. Same with Westlake to LC, really common.

every other kid on Barbes team grew up in LC, at least any that contribute. Ill say that Barbe is going to encourage good players and affluent families to send their kids there. That is what is good for the school, just like any school should. With the new rule every school should be showing why they are the best, its called competing.

Dutchtown kicked Barbes arse...its fine. The players were not ready to hit that kind of pitching and choked, it happens and this game is really hard and Dutchtown is a good team.

1) glenn isnt retiring anytime soon at all, as in prolly not for 10 years. he will not retire so long as its possible for him to still coach. Other than family he loves it more than anything else in the world and there is nothing he would rather be doing... well maybe snow skiing. They are both already retired from CPSB, all he does is sell cars in the morning and coach baseball until around 8 every day.

2) Garin is taking over when he does

they have an extremely good senior class, type of class that comes through every 5-8 years or so. Have some very talented juniors that contribute too. They have a great shot at making the ship but will not be easy as Doyle is really good.

They have a really good incoming freshman class for next year, hopefully in a couple year they will repeat this run. Problem in westlake is a lot of the younger traditional families moved so their kids are at other schools. The opening of the golf course helped, but the school has been shrinking in number of kids for years now. Used to be a bigger 3a school back in late 70s to early 80s to now they play in Div 3 and are one of the smaller 3a schools with under 500 kids.
