I think Dutchtown vs Sam Houston.

Game 1 if it’s Johnson vs Sullivan is going to be an unreal matchup.

Dutchtown vs Barbe threw Johnson then bc of the win threw the #3 in game 2 and came back with Tunnard game three. Would think the same if they are able to pull out game 1.

I read through this thread and have a daughter graduating from a SMHS "rival" if you will.

I believe the girls volleyball coach is a new admin hire, and she took them to the state title game this season and it was anyone's game to win that day.
They hired a young lady to take over softball, older guy from the year before was not there, and looking at GC she went 23-10 in year one,

I would not clam those fumbling the bag.

Weather looking worse this weekend than last weekend. Gonna be a lot of moving parts to get games in.
Wonder the possibility of Curtis and Catholic moving to Parkview with the turf. But honestly, I don't even know if that'll work. Not just wet surfaces, its the non stop rain.
Haven't heard any contingency plans yet from Coach, but I'm sure it's a very fluid situation.

Softball - won with an already developed team and a freshman that the former HC got there on his own. Finished 22-13 year before

Volleyball - again, already established - was successful with a tenured coach who had been there for many years - but i will say she is way better than previous coach - they will be good - but i doubt she is there for much longer.

Again, nobody can answer what makes this a good hire.. need evidence not just “solid baseball guy” plenty of those out there.

Maybe someone can, but not me.

I'm only addressing your stance the SMHS is "always fumbling the bag" .

That claim has holes.

Why did he leave last time. I don't remember if it was for a college or another high school position. I remember he did the Prospects organization.

I think the Board pushed him out. CP's has a reputation for getting crossways with coaches. Guess the Board has turned over since then.

Some of the games start tonight. All the one game eliminations should play today, especially if you don’t get the game in until this weekend then you have to turnaround and play Tuesday in Sulphur.

In years past, I'd agree with you and be skeptical of any hire they made. When Lee was principal, there was almost no importance placed on athletics. It was as if athletics were included because they HAD to. Your view of the school pretty much aligns with the prevailing public perception at the time.

The new admin has been up to the task of completely changing the entire culture of the school, and have done some pretty amazing things in the short time they've been there. But clearly, they also have a long way to go. Nothing that I've seen from them gives me any indication that they rushed through the search and just settled for someone. Whether Edwards is the "right" choice. . .I guess we will have to wait until he at least makes it to campus. Even the best head coaches, no matter the sport, started as an assistant and needed someone to give them the chance to prove themselves.

This is 1000000% true. I couldn't stand Lee as an administrator and was glad to see her leave. Wish she would have been gone 5 years ago.

The best Lee story is when she went into the Episcopal press box and made them turn off a warm up song before a football game because it had a few curse words in it. She sure was mad. Granted Episcopal shouldn't have been playing that song as it was inappropriate for 2 Christian schools playing each other; but, if I was in the press box, I would have told her to go kick rocks.

I believe the current admin may have the new era of smhs athletes and parents fooled. Everything that glitters aint gold - anyone can do facility upgrades.

Until SMHS AD and the lloyd christmas haircut weirdo who goes online and asks for money every week is gone athletics will continue to underperform. I feel for the players because from what ive heard they really bought into the interim and staff. By the looks of how bad they were before the firing, it appears the interims did a hell of a job. Dont know if either of them were a legit candidate though

You are certainly free to believe what you want regarding the new admin. My personal experience leads me to believe otherwise and I likely wouldn't be able to sway your opinion.

Can also apply to the interims. Playing with house money and winning a few playoff games doesn't necessarily make you head coaching material. The only assistant that applied, this was his first year coaching at the HS level and only 2 years coaching 10/11u prior to that. He probably had higher consideration than others with little/no experience because of the kids, but likely fell middle-of-the-pack in the end. If he was in year 5, I would think he had a really good chance at it.

Well, actually, the assistant, not the HC, was apart of bernhard’s staff from 2014-2017. Not his first rodeo. Bernhard had the blueprint, and him and interim HC most definitely had it too. I cant imagine someone as smart as you thinks these guys were dealt an easy situation - a complete mess - rallied the troops/played the right guys and from what i saw they were an inning away from making mediocre players parents hate them even more… i am well versed in BR area sports scene so i hear all the drama

Nonetheless, im not saying those guys are better than anyone or a slam dunk, but to say they won just a few games given the teams state before the firing…kinda hilarious imo.

But hey, atleast those guys did well for themselves in their time. They did not have to kiss arse like some to earn their spot, ya know?

3 of the 4 assistants were still attending high school during Bernhard. And the 4th would rather not be an assistant much less a head coach. So yes, this is his (the assistant that applied) only "real" coaching experience.

The bottom line is that none of the assistants had the experience necessary to take over the job. I'm sure you will hear about plenty of drama with Edwards getting the job over them.

Geez wrong again. The asst that applied is 30-31 yrs old. Bernhard finished in 17. Regardless, we will see how it all works out.
