Laurent Mekies has apologised to Max Verstappen after the Dutchman’s Monaco Grand Prix came to an abrupt end due to a power unit failure. The Red Bull Racing team principal admitted the issue was entirely down to the team, while confirming Verstappen will receive a new engine for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.
Mekies would also suck Max's dick if he needed to in order to keep Max from not completely saying frick all this and leaving. I do believe Mekies's statement, but the new engine seems premature just as a precaution against it actually being a engine problem, unless they actually did find something legit. Feels l Ike THAT part is just to placate Max.

No doubt, every team does to appease their lead driver, but all indications are Max didn't fubar the start

Furthermore, Red Bull team Radio confirmed, "Engine is broken. power unit problem." The radio transmission immediately raised questions about whether Red Bull had suffered another mechanical issue in a season already marked by challenges under Formula 1’s new 2026 regulations.

Anyone see the video of Kim walking by the podiums and just casually taking the towel off Kimi's podium and walking off with it while wiping her face?
Entitlement at its finest.

Just like last year’s…
Oh wait
Brink back the MGU-H if they’re going to keep this level of hybrid power.

Go look closely at the in car camera. The front left was clean on both cars before hitting the patch and after was coated in marbles. Really looks like front left lost traction and led to the head on into the barrier. Juan Pablo bave a nice analysis post race of this discussing that kimi and lewis missed the trash on the restart but LeClerc didn't. The tire trash with whatever else was going on with brakes, etc seems to have been enough that the driver could not overcome

lol. It was a horrible race. Nothing happened for 40 laps except penalties. Then the next 10 just had two cars go straight into a barrier for no reason. Zero passing on track. More penalties. fricking yawn.

I watched one of Leclerc's post-race interviews. shite, talk about a man that's in a low place. It's interesting when you compare it's to Hamilton's interview. Hamilton says he's begged and begged for changes, and finally got them. Then, Charles says the car is totally undrivable for him. Time stamped for Ham. Lec is at about 9:30.
edit: Damn. Looks like FOM has embed blocked.

Hamilton after the race with Kimi and Hadj was funny.
"I'm older than the both of you combined"

Been a lot of talk about Leclerc’s brakes after yesterday. Something he said forced brembo to put out a statement immediately. Looks like he will be changing certain components.
Last night, @Auto_Racer_it dropped a bombshell about Ferrari's braking issues:
Brembo does seem to be the one responsible.
Since 2024, Leclerc has been complaining about brake problems. When Lewis Hamilton arrived, he pushed to work with Carbon Industries brakes, which are notably used at Mercedes.
But Ferrari has a contract with Brembo on many topics beyond F1, which the Italian company rather clumsily reminded everyone of yesterday.
And in the utmost secrecy, Maranello fitted Carbon Industries brake discs on Lewis's car, giving the British driver a lot more confidence and corroborating the good sensations described by Lewis.
Finally, we're learning that Leclerc will now test Hamilton's system starting in Barcelona.
That's undoubtedly why Brembo reacted quite brutally last night.
This is going to hurt that partnership very, very badly. I don't know how it's going to conclude, but it's a gigantic bombshell.

Did they do this without Leclerc knowing?

Lewis has driven carbon industries brakes for most of his career. There is probably a feel as well as just confidence.
Maybe brembo just missed on Ferrari or Leclerc is just looking for something.
Also noticed that Merc is going to get an engine upgrade because Red Bull is considered the most powerful engine.

Anybody else fast forward half of the race?
For 20 laps the broadcast was George tailing Hadjar and not being able to pass despite Hadjar crying on the radio the entire time his motor was failing and had numerous lock ups. George still had no chance to pass despite all of that and the faster car.
I love F1 so I'll watch any of it but I legit HATE this race. It's a joke.

Make Monaco a time trial and move on to the next real race, like Tour Dr. France.

Hungaroring is just as bad as Monaco. Not near as beautiful.
Posted on 6/8/26 at 9:52 am to fightin tigers
I actually thought it wasn’t as bad this year as it has been recently. We had 20 overtakes on track during the first lap with no flags! Max not getting to race was a disappointment and hurt the rest of the race. He would have at least pressured Kimi a little.

Did they ever figure out what caused all the speeding in the pits incidents? No way there were that many guys that got it wrong
Posted on 6/8/26 at 5:16 pm to MikeD
Jist....
They measure speed in sectors, basically lasers set a certain distance apart. They measure how long a car takes to get from one beam to another. (distance/time=speed)
In the case of the Monaco pit lane the set of beams by the first pit box (1/2) were slightly angled due to the shape of pit lane. This was moved up from normal years because of the addition of the 11th team. So if they cut the pit box (which is legal) the beams would be broken faster causing it to register a faster time meaning faster speed.
ETA: may not be lasers. Might be embedded wires.
