It's nice having ESPN on the coverage for this tournament. I was not impressed with TNT's coverage of the FO.
Fritz is putting up a good fight. Maybe he can win a tiebreaker and take this to a 5th set.
His service velocity is incredible.

Just got aced on a second.
The 4th will go to a tiebreak.
On an unrelated note, Neal Skupski (LSU grad/2 time Wimbeldon champ) just left our restaurant Cajun restaurant in Liverpool.

Fritz played about as well as could be expected today

Damn. Fritz had two good forehand looks there on Alcaraz’ serves but Alcaraz went the right way both times.

Just brutal. Had him at double set point and the first serve was right down the line, incredible return

Agree, just outclassed by the best in the world right now. He needed another stretch of late S2 Alcaraz. Though I think the pressure would have gotten to him even if he had won that tiebreak.

That Alcaraz return at 6-4 Fritz in the tiebreak was pretty unreal and kept him in the point. That was a good 1st serve from Fritz and Carlos put it back in play.
Then that last backhand from Carlos on/near the line. Fritz did not play bad at all but certain players, and Alcaraz is in that camp, they just have a level that is very hard to match.

Bold prediction: Sinner in straight sets.

Joker left it all on the court against the other Italian. Figured he'd struggle against Sinner.
Glad I got to live thru the Joker era of dominance. But old age is creeping up on him like it did Chief Lone Watty.
And me.

The start did not look good for Djoker. He looks like he does not really have the belief that he can win this match. It’s still early, and he’s started slow in some other matches this tournament, but not against guys with the quality of Sinner. If this keeps up this could be over in short order.

Looking like it will be Jannik "The Machine" Sinner vs Carlos "The Animal" Alcaraz.

And an early break for Sinner in the 2nd.

I mean I guess in the sense that he's mortal now, but he's still the clear third best player in the world.

He's probably got a few more chances to win in Australia where Alcaraz has been a non-factor so far

His wife, however, doesn't seem to age at all.

Fun fact: Roger Federer played 1526 matches in his career without a single retirement.
