Yesterday the speculation was the Williams deal is a 1+1 with an out clause if RB or Merc want him.

Article says 2yr deal, but guess it could include the 1+1 and just not those details.

I've said from the start, RB needs to figure out who will be their number 1 in 2026, bc its looking more and more likely that Max will jump to Merc with Newey out and the drama within the camp.

Bring Sainz in for 25', let him learn the team and support Max, and then take over in 26'

Seems like an abject failure on RBR's part to not sign Sainz. Big get for Williams. Albon seems to be consistent for them, and they'll finally have a solid driver pairing. Time will tell if Vowles can really turn the ship around.

Guess we'll get wild speculation about that RBR seat until the end of the season then.

Any chance they can still get Newey? Have him do some pro bono charity case work.

Hope they best for Sainz and good on Williams to get him somehow. Hope they can make the most of it.

Marko’s made it very clear they’re going to go the route they always have - trying to find the next big talent ala Vettel or Max. Sainz is getting ridiculously screwed given his performance, but he also doesn’t meet those reqs. They’d rather give Lawson a shot or wait for Hadjar who has a solid hold on first in F2 right now.

ETA: Red Bull is also at a point where they’re closer to losing Max, either via an early contractual out or the end of his contract. They have to start thinking the future whereas with signing Checo they were clearly looking for a second driver

Didn’t Toto basically say that they were left with Kimi?

Sainz move should domino the rest of the spots asap now though.

Good for Williams.
Now time for Alpine to finally promote Doohan.

Kimi -> Mercedes
Lawson -> Red Bull
Hadjar -> RB
Doohan -> Alpine
Bottas stays at Sauber

Checo, Danny Ric, Zhou are all out

ETA: This is all after Danny Ric gets promoted for second half of 2024 and Lawson goes to RB, then Danny Ric doesn’t perform.

One team per ownership group should be the rule.

RB owning two teams is ridiculous and I can't believe it has been allowed for so long.

Agreed. It's just as bad as the preferential treatment and veto rights that Ferrari hold. Neither should exist

Everyone except them saw Checo was shite since back half of last year.

They let money talk and are now in a bind.

Would be glorious if Max does have an out for Newey leaving and he jumps to Merc for next season and RB is left with nothing.

Marko has always been somewhat of a troll and a speaker of truth.

A few people here seem to be speculating this timeline. Danny is in the Red Bull seat for the rest for 2024, so he can see his last hurrah as Red Bull driver, with the expectation (by everyone, including Red Bull management) that he will get slaughtered by Max (though obviously perform better than Perez), and replaced in 2025 by a young up-and-comer, presumably Lawson, who will have had 10 races more experience at VCARB. I can buy this.

Yeah, he’s not wrong. Norris has got to figure out why he’s so bad with his starts.
