Yeah, it does. I think they are tied at 38.

You think any appreciable work happened in .4 seconds other than touching?

Which I think is the root argument. Just don't touch the car and there is no debate.

Yes. .4 of second worth.

Which is probably what most of the teams have told their mechanics. Which gave the false impression that it was the rule.

It's not and never was.

Here's the rule for you to chew on;

Art 54.3. letter a)
The stewards may impose any one of the penalties below on any driver involved in an Incident:

A five (5) second time penalty. The driver must enter the pit lane, stop in his pit stop position for at least five seconds and then re-join the sprint session or the race. The relevant driver may however elect not to stop, provided he carries out no further pit stop before the end of the sprint session or the race. In such cases five (5) seconds will be added to the elapsed the sprint session or race time of the driver concerned.

Article 54.4.
Whilst a car is stationary in the pit lane as a result of incurring a penalty in accordance with Articles 54.3 a) or 54.3 b) above, it may not be worked on until the car has been stationary for the duration of the penalty.

Note there is absolutely no mention, reference, or even intimation concerning touching.

It doesn't mention ejaculating on it either.... both situations are a tool touching a car :rimshot:

What is the reason for touching with the jack? To gain an advantage, no?

Go back to brazil 2021, just don't touch the car.

I could see it both ways but I'd argue the jack touching the car constitutes working on the car.

Seems the rule just needs to be clarified going forward.

Let's be honest, Lewis is the number 2 driver at Mercedes and George is behind Max, Leclerc, Alonso, Norris and possibly a handful of other drivers (Ocon? Sainz?). There's no "how good the drivers are" - the car and drivers are mediocre.

Merc finishes 4th this season.

Apropos of nothing, I noticed that numerous drivers finished in the same position in both races. We'll see if anyone keeps their streak alive in two weeks.

Alonso P3 in both races.
Hamilton P5 in both races.
Gasly P9 in both races.
Yuki P11 in both races. That's gotta hurt.
de Vries P14 in both races.
Lando P17 in both races. Ouch.

Poor Lando is dead last in the championship. Everyone else has a finish higher than P17.

It's okay to not like them, but they're better than mediocre.

I mean this is pretty dumb. Ricciardo regularly had p17-like finishes in the same car Norris was regularly finishing in p7 with. If Norris has a p17 car now, that would seem only guarantee a p20 spot for ricciardo.

We knew going into the season that Max was pretty much a lock to win it all. I hoped that Ferrari might have closed the gab a bit overall but it looks pretty clear that Checco is probably a lock for the #2 spot.

It's nice that there is a three way battle for second but man I hate the race winner already being decided before the race starts.

Love seeing McLaren suck it up because I don't like Zak Brown Band but I hate it for Lando. Wonder if two races in if Piastri is thinking yeesh, maybe I should have stuck with Aston Martin.
