I’m admittedly very new to F1, but is not kind of messed up how the flew the red flag yesterday? Ocon prepares for the heavy rain by putting on the extremes, loses a bit before the rain comes, and then they fly the flag? Ocon gets penalized for being prepared for rain and everyone else gets a windfall

Shitty luck, but cars were flying all over the track, its pretty well documented that the full wets are useless because they through so much of a rooster tail/spray with the under body aero. Something they are working on, but its was just a lot of rain very, very quick.

They red flagged the race due to the car stuffed in the tecpro.

Red flags are awful. Should have just gone yellow.

They'll throw a red flag every time in that situation after Bianchi's death.

My hot take: Full wet tires are just advertisement for Pirelli and need to be removed from the lineup. By the time they are needed, it's red flag conditions for visibility for race control, marshalls and drivers.

Meh, I hate red flags, but what was left, 8 laps at that point?

We would have gotten the rest of the race under yellow more than likely with the car stuck in the barrier.

I'm good with stopping and then restarting with some racing.

Those will look great in P8 and P11 for their home race.

I see what you're saying, but it might be a safety issue plus a cost saving consideration for teams to avoid shunts.

Liam Lawson confirmed to stay in the 2nd AlphaTauri seat until Daniel Ricciardo returns. Danny had surgery; I'm guessing he's back in a couple of weeks?

People have pointed out that a team can only use a maximum of four drivers in a season? That's a restrictive rule. But that also means that they had no choice but to leave Lawson in the seat.

Edit: I was unaware of this rule:
rookieroad.com/formula-1/driver-change-rules-3007299/

quote:

The most important rule about changing drivers in Formula 1 is that each team can only use four total drivers to pilot their cars during all of the season’s races, sprints, and qualifying sessions. Other drivers are allowed to participate in practice sessions.

The four-driver rule is why teams employ only two primary drivers in nearly every session and race during a season while retaining one or two backup drivers used only in emergencies. <...> The limit of four drivers is also why primary drivers in Formula 1 are typically not replaced mid-season, even in the face of poor performance.

Red Bull made a special exception for de Vries.

I thought Lawson did really well considering how little time he had in the car. In his prerace interview he basically said the race was practice for Monza.

Haven't looked at the numbers, but what are we, two races away from Max locking up the drivers championship?

I'd say it's pretty much locked up

Im just saying, until Max could go on vacation for the rest of the year and not drive.

He's up by 138 over Perez currently and like 180 over Alonso. So he could sit out 5 races and still be in the lad at this moment if Perez won ever race in his absence.

We have 9 races left, so mathematically, hes likely to have it locked up after Japan with 6 races remaing.

fricking boring

heres the latest rumor per motorsport.com

-DHL is the official logsitics provider of Aston Martin

-DHL has confirmed they are not continuing to sponsor the Andretti 28 currently piloted by Grosjean

- It has been rumored DHL has been poached by Ganassi Racing and will be Alex Palou’s primary in 2024

- Honda going to be the works Aston Team, Ganassi is Honda’s flagship Indycar team

- Palou not worried about the $20-30M lawsuit filed by Mclaren. Why? Is it possible Honda convinced him to stay at Ganassi and not to go Mclaren (Chevy power in Indycar for all the DTS fans ITT) with the promise of sliding into the Aston Martin Honda in 2026 alongisde Alonso??

- We know Aston Martin and Honda will want to compete for championships in earnest, and the current lineup with Lance Stroll, is not going to enable that becoming a reality. Palou as a top 3-5 driver in the world, gives Aston Martin/ Honda a WDC caliber driver to learn and take over from Fernando
