Ever seen a Countach with a standard police lightbar?
Usually vehicles seized from drug lords and repurposed.

Would love to get your take on 2023 Vegas circuit, my initial guess is Monza type power.
I am honestly not a big fan of street courses so I already have a built-in bias so keep that in mind. I think it will be fast, dangerous (especially next year when all 20 drivers will take their first laps there at one time) and the inevitable safety cars will likely make it a luck of the draw race. I think it will be stunning visually but likely sets up for boring racing but a spectacle nonetheless.
I will be curious how long the US can support 3 races.
Speaking of safety cars I wonder how the current drivers would like to be behind one of the most infamous safety cars of all time, the Opel Vectra. While it may not have killed Senna it certainly didn't help him stay on the track going into Tamburello.
I understand the money and marketing behind the safety car but why don't they just put Maylander in something like a detuned (for reliability) Mercedes AMG GT3 evo from DTM. Alternatively, given the desired move to blanketless tires the drivers are going to have to come to grips with driving on room temp tires.
Some random pics
I thought this stat was interesting. The margins were both facilitated by the second Ferrari falling out of the race early. Rubens did last almost a lap longer than Carlos though.
Leclerc's binder actually has useful information in it
Kimi quietly waits in his suite for a call from Maranello.
ETA interesting infographic

That is interesting. In Bahrain, it seemed like the Ferraris were the only ones not porpoising. Now they're the worst.

I don’t think Ferrari cares about the porpoising. When they brake to turn they immediately become the most stable car in the field. They’ll deal with some bouncing in the straights.

I wonder if there are any potential health problems for the drivers with that much bouncing. Can’t be great for the neck or maybe brain (although they do major neck muscle workouts).

Probably significantly less than the average Baja 1000 or Paris Dakar driver deals with.

I see Spain has the C1 as the hard. As long as the C2 lasts I wonder if the C1 throws sparks.

I guess Aston made a call to the FIA:

It's embarrassing that the FIA had to make a statement.
I've seen several people on Twitter suggest using GT3 spec cars. They look very similar to street cars except for the rear wing and massive diffuser. When someone said that it may not be practial to use a real race car, a racer replied that GT3 cars fire up like a regular car, and can be fitted with a second seat, so they are very feasible for use as safety cars. Even the AMG has to drive at its limit to go fast enough, so a GT3 car would provide a bigger operating window. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Mylander has said that race control always controls his pace.
Not saying the Aston sucks or not, but this isn't a new revelation.
Could be the new race control structure not pushing the pace car as much.

The drivers were saying that the AMG was 5 sec/lap faster than the Aston, and the Merc was OK, but the Aston was too slow. So it was a specific complaint about the Aston, not about the safety car speeds in general.

I don't really see this as an issue. FIA just needs to tell the drivers to STFU about it and move on.

Let’s pump the brakes a bit.

F1 drivers are very prissy when it comes to tire temps
quote:
Mercedes-AMG F1 driver George Russell told Motorsport that (the Aston Martin is) a whole five seconds per lap slower than the Mercedes. That made it even tougher in Australia for the race leaders to keep temperature in their tires during either of the safety car's two deployments.
"There's so little grip and also the safety car was driving so slow, it was like a turtle. Unbelievable," Verstappen told Motorsport after the race. "For sure the Mercedes safety car is faster because of the extra aero, because this Aston Martin is really slow. It definitely needs more grip, because our tires were stone cold. It's pretty terrible the way we are driving behind the safety car at the moment."

I pointed out the option here. The reality is Mylander goes as fast as Safety Control dictates. If he can't match their set pace then they should use faster SCs if he can then they are fine. Drivers complain about the SC pace no matter what car it is, there were complaints on the radio at Jeddah about the AMG. It is just something drivers have ALWAYS bitched about. They are going to have to get used to starting stints on cold tires when blankets go away.
I guarantee if they put GT3 cars in they will complain as well just like they would if the FIA mandated 2-seater F1 cars. Racers complain, that is what they do, even the men of few words like Kimi.

Hey, man, you pay me to say you're a top manufacturer, then I say you're a top manufacturer. $imple as that.
