Is this a done deal? When? I never heard that they were going away for sure. Should make for more interesting standing starts

As of now, 2024. From the looks undercuts will disappear when that happens.

I have a pretty silly question.
How do F1 teams handle all of their logistics between some of these races? When going from continent to continent, do they lease the huge transport planes or some such?

Let’s pump the brakes a bit.
When companies build these I am reticent to argue with that plaudit.
IF Mercedes ever actually builds and sells the One AKA R50 with all the original design parameters I will bow down and put them at the pinnacle of hypercar manufacturers. That is assuming it is remotely useable on the road. Putting an F1 engine in a road car and making it work is one of the tougher things any company has tried to do. It is nearly the exact opposite of Gordon Murray's power train philosophy so lets see if Merc can outthink Gordon.

Not a silly question at all. Here you go.
And another one.

That is fascinating. Thank you

Allegedly emissions is the holdback.
However that probably just means they can't get the engine to work with all the emissions gear on it.
They need to just build them for Dubai so it can be done already.

I’m making my way through highlights old races. I realize I’m late to the party with some of this but Belgium 1998 and Canada 2011. Holy shite.

Canada 2011 was such a fun race to watch. The drivers were racing themselves just to stay on track.

One of my all-time favorite races, with an epic ending.

Considering an F1 engine seems to idle at about 4 grand that would be a bit difficult in city traffic.

What they're going for seems ridiculous. I was looking at the specs. The ICE is still a 1.6L turbo, generating 748 hp. Redline reduced from 15K to 11K, otherwise it hardly seems detuned. (My Honda's 1.5L turbo generates 175 hp.
The wiki says the engine will last for 31K miles before needing a rebuild. I'm skeptical it would last that long, but we may never know because I doubt any one of these cars will ever reach 31K miles.
They are giving rich people a chance to have a streetable F1 car, but as you guys are saying, it's not very user friendly.

All the future owners (Hamilton, Bottas, Nico included) got a badass GT Black Series as a waiting gift for the delays.

Speaking of Nico, both Rosberg and Romain Grosjean have fantastic YouTube channels. Are there any other F1 (or ex-F1) drivers who make good videos? I think Lando is a big Twitch guy, but I mean guys who make informative videos like Rosberg and Grosjean.

I'm guessing the service requirements will make the typical Ferrari seem like a Camry in comparison.
Will a "Push oil button" request come over the speakers in Toto's voice every 30 minutes?
I watched a couple of Nico's track tip vids the other day. He's pretty good and still looks young as hell.

For me the F1 youtube channels I watch are Chainbear and Driver61.
Chainbear does a lot of easy to digest technical.
Driver61 is slightly more in depth, like an Obtuse breakdown, but with videos and pictures.

It is supposed to idle at about 1300. Therein is where the rub is for me. When does an F1 engine quit being an F1 engine?
The maintenance schedule also includes a 30k mile rebuild of the engine. But most of these types of cars never see 30k on the clock.
I am always dubious of cars built around a single metric like the Bugatti Veyron with the 1,000 hp goal. Although they snatch headlines they also lose shite tons of money and are almost always flawed. Plus if you are gonna put an F1 engine in a car the turbo-hybrid era is the biggest aural loser.

Sometimes F1 infographics bug me:
Properly adjusted Nico actually had 76pts in 2016 tied for 3rd with Nigel (1992 in the GOAT FW14B, meet me at Sonic MP4/4 stans) and Michael (2004). Herr Schumacher is tied for first (with himself) with 77pts (2000/1994). Senna had 75pts (1991) for 6th so Charles is actually 7th.
