Will laughs at himself a lot when it comes to the edits in DtS. The guy loves his job.

The big teams are asking for a budget increase due to inflation.
AMuS so you probably need a translator
Select quotes;
The inflation rate rises. The financial regulations of the FIA ??provide for an increase in the budget cap, but the deadline was missed. Nevertheless, seven teams are demanding up to seven million dollars extra. The rising costs are beginning to overwhelm teams. Nevertheless, Alpine, Alfa Romeo and Haas are against it.
Colleague Guenther Steiner von Haas also sees no reason for an emergency. "If we are above three percent inflation in September, there will automatically be a surcharge in 2023. We don't have to bring that forward." Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer has a suspicion as to why the former Budget Cap hardliners McLaren and Aston Martin have defected to other camps: "They have problems with their cars and have to massively rebuild them. They need more money for that."
The FIA ??and F1 management are also reluctant. They want to squeeze the bonus. What has once been promised cannot be withdrawn. A further inflation surcharge for 2023, which would be due again if inflation rises, would drive the budget cap to $149 million instead of $135 million if there were an immediate concession and would thwart the intentions of cost control. The last round of negotiations led to no result. The proposal to split the seven million into 2022 and 2023 was also not approved. "As always in such cases, we will meet in the middle," Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali is convinced.

Thanks, Biden? Never could have imagined that this administration could screw up F1 too for us.

Matty: Guenther why did you invite Bill Belichick?

Drivers' press conference re safety car speed:
Charles: "I wanted to complain [speed of the SC] but then I checked how much the safety car slided in the corner so I don’t think there was anything more the SC could give, so I didn’t want to put too much pressure."
George: "We don’t have the issues with the Mercedes AMG safety car. Honestly the Mercedes AMG is 5s a lap quicker than the Aston Martin safety car.
Charles (laughs): "We need to put a Ferrari, so then it is 5s quicker than the Mercedes!"

Wouldn’t they already have all of the parts purchased and sitting in a warehouse?
This makes little sense, it’s not like they call the factory and order a new x,y,or z and wait for it to be constructed and shipped.
I agree with the little teams, let the chips fall where they may.

This year is going to be incredible…. Have a strong feeling Lec runs away with it, but after that and constructors, who the hell knows.

Interesting read about Albon's megastint.
https://the-race.com/uncategorized/the-full-story-of-albons-against-all-odds-melbourne-point/
It mentions on the first SC that Stroll came in for mediums and then on the next lap came back in for hards to satisfy the two compound rule. Perhaps Haas should have done the same, but I doubt many thought the C2s could go the entire race.

K Mag says being right up someone's tailpipe killed his downforce. That was cause of his lawn mowing excursion.
He was closer than I have seen anyone else get to this point. The in car looked like he was about to try bump drafting.
quote:
Magnussen made an intriguing observation about how he lost downforce when right behind another car.
"I had one where I was really close into Turn 9 and there was just nothing, like no downforce," said the Dane.
"If you're just like one car length behind, it's really good. If you're right on his tail, it's way worse than the old cars, but if you're about one car length it's way better, and that's better for racing because you can launch an attack a bit easier."
Asked if he'd experienced that before with the 2022 Haas car, he added: "Not like that. I was right on his tail into Turn 9 and when I braked I just locked both tyres at high speed, not normal."

I fricking hate ESPN. I can’t get the replay to play on any device using the app.
Tried to watch the on-demand video on the app early yesterday morning and it wouldn't work. Had to wait until 8:00a to catch the re-air... with commercial breaks

That's one reason why I love YouTubeTV. It knows I love F1 and the race in its entirety is there for me to watch at whatever time I'd like to watch it.

Grosjean still has his Haas steering wheel (Same as Ferrari wheel) and shows what all the buttons and knobs do.

Really happy for Albon. Hope he costs Lewis a point or three later this season.

That was a fairly detailed overview. Much more covered in those few minutes than most teams officially release. I understand brakes, differentials, etc, but I'd love to know more about the actual engine settings. It's assuredly over my head from a technical perspective, but I'd love to hear it and digest it.

It really isn't that complicated. Be sure to read the last sentence even if you skip part of the body.
I assume all teams will separate strat modes for the ICE and the ERS.
ICE modes will change around the fuel/air mixture, boost, and timing (advance/retard) those are going to be the big ones but you will also have injection timing, switching speed, fuel temp, oil temp, wastegate valve timing, pneumatic pressure in the valve system, and probably a couple of other parameters. The modes will determine how much HP output you have and thus how much you are stressing the ICE. You can also use lower strat modes to help cool the engine by reducing the heat in the combustion chamber although with fewer HP but less stress. The team will have worked out how many laps they can push the engine during development and use this to inform their strategy. Strat 2 AKA Party mode for Merc cranks up everything both ICE and ERS to the maximum power over one lap usually used in Q3 (for front running teams) or possibly in/out laps to complete or prevent an over/undercut, again read the last sentence as this is mainly history now.
ERS normally has 3 modes one neutral, one "attack" and one for recharging. The neutral mode will over a lap be a balanced power in/power out so you can run that mode all day. Attack will let you use more power than you harvest over a lap but you will only have 2-3 laps before you have to go into a recharging mode where you harvest more than you put back out over each lap.
Now a lot of changes have gone away after technical directive 37 which requires the team to do all of qualifying and the race in one engine mode. There are a list of exceptions but I don't know them all off hand.
I don't think TD 37 impacts the ability to switch ERS modes but I may be mistaken on that.
