After watching exactly what happened again and again and thinking about this for a while ...Tiger should DQ HIMESELF ...
He knows the rules and the intent of rules. He broke it and he should do the right thing.
But I wont hold my breath on that, although it will make a good thread topic in a few minutes

I think in his mind he was using where the ball crossed the hazard in the air on its way to the green and it just didn't occur to him that he had to use the path where it came back into the hazard.
Technically he should be a dqed, but I hope it doesn't happen. Tiger could gain a ton of respect and grow his legend if he were to dq himself.

I agree that Tiger should DQ himself. How is this not resolved already though? Bubba has teed off, has he not? Wouldn't they have resolved it so as to reshuffle the pairings if needed?

It's pretty obvious he got the rule wrong. Only out is if they conclude he dropped it close enough to his original shot.

How close is "enough"? I would think dropping behind your original spot should be "ok" right? I, however, have no knowledge on the rules and ethics of the game.

I hear you but I think that by him admitting that he dropped it to a yardage to gain an advantage overrules that ... If tiger does not say that last night .. NONE OF THIS TALK IS TAKING PLACE

I'm with Threeputt. I'd do a 180 on my feelings on him. It looks like it was improper drop. You can't go back farther if the line of entrance and stick is not being used. If he doesn't I hope he wins so we can not count it toward 18.
