Its one of those vague rules.

must play from as nearly as possible but no closer.

Whats that? 3cm, 3inches, or 3 yards.

Personally, I don't think they would penalize anyone. It's enough of a disagreement among people that it'll come down to competitive advantage, which he didn't gain

It's pretty straight forward to me. He had 3 options:

1. Replay original shot...admitted to not doing this

2. Drop on the line where the ball last crossed hazard margin. The ball hit the flag and kicked towards the grandstand when it rolled into the hazard, so he didn't do this.

3. Drop within 2 club lengths of the hazard margin...obviously didn't do this.

I think the drop was illegal.

You go to your divot and drop. He knowingly went 2 yards backward. That's not the question.

It's what angle should he have taken the drop.

2 yards, so it wasn't as close to the original spot.

Then he should be penalized, according to the rules.
Now this brings up him signing his scorecard and Augusta obviously claiming it as correct. Can they really take 2 strokes off after they already made it official? I thought the penalty had to be called before the scorecard is made offical

It's one of THE most specific rules in golf, because it is the one most referenced during play.

It would have to be...their only choice now would be to DQ him.

They altered that a couple years ago after Camilo got DQ'd. They can tack on 2 before the round because the viewers calling in stuff got out of control.

I don't know if Augusta will follow Tour rules. They use Tour officials so I'd imagine they do

Thats how I see it as well. And they wouldn't dare DQ Tiger for something they should have picked up on before Tiger signed his scorecard.

If Feherty really said something on the CBS wrap up show and Tiger got DQ'd because of it, Feherty might work for NBC next week.

If he's in the wrong they should penalize him, I have no problem with that.

I agree, and personally I don't think they should DQ him.

On a lighter note, since Bubba is going off by himself to start the day tomorrow, you think the green jackets will let him use his hovercraft?

You keep saying that, but you don't refute the point that he didn't keep the line where the ball last crossed the hazard margin between himself and the hole. You don't agree with that?

I bet Augusta National puts the clamps down on CBS tomorrow. They won't even let them talk about it, it'll be like it never happened

Why? They didn't mind penalizing a 14 year old.
