Thanks. Our income sucks.
I'm in my 9th year teaching.
I coach on top of that and I bring home $3,185/month.
Even more impressive. So many would go beyond their means.

Damn. You need to move somewhere where they actually pay teachers. My wife is a middle school teacher and has a salary of $65k in her 5th year of teaching, and she doesn't coach shite.

Family of 3 now.
We spend about $700/mo on groceries. More if I consider the random $30-40 trips, so probably $850.
Everything else that's not a recurring bill is probably around 2000-2500. So I guess around $2850-$3350 if I'm including everything I'm supposed to.

Not sure if this is a brag thread or a cry thread...
J/K There are some disciplined guys out there. I think the spend as a % of income is likely a more important factor than overall $ amount. If $1,200 and $12,000 are the same % of gross pay then I don't think the number is that important.

I wasn't sure exactly what should be included in "consumer spend"? Groceries are a bill to me.
My wife and I make a pretty decent upper middle-class income. We don't eat out a lot or stuff like that though. I'm kind of cheap

I'm with you on the cheap. I can't stand overpaying or being overcharged for a service. I am willing to spend time and energy looking for reasonably priced quality items even though I can afford whatever. It just gets in my craw. When getting bids for work on my house I feel like contractors throw a premium on the work based on the neighborhood and I have a hard time with that!

We counting daycare? That's already $3k a month by itself

Our credit card bills are roughly 12k a month. That includes basically everything except our mortgage.

i could have told you that.
Eating out is expensive and will only increase with the constant bashing on the head for wage increases.
The company is not eating that, the consumer is. I never eat out anymore unless im on a trip.

In early 2021, our joint account that we pay for discretionary stuff (dining out, socializing, presents, entertaining, clothing, some donations, etc.) went over six figures because we hadn't spent anything during the COVID lockdown.
It's normally around $10-15k.
That was quite the eye-opener for us.

Roughly $7/8k/month. Single, no family.

Family of 4 - minus the items you omitted, we spend about $2000/month
Rarely go out to eat as a whole family b/c a 1 and 4 yr old at a restaurant is more work than the enjoyment we get from eating out.

Just retired….probably looking at $3-4k/ month. That’s with no extravagant trips or frivolous spending.

JFC. Even including dance fees, that's out of bounds. Mortgage and rent? I'm thoroughly confused, and not just because I'm drinking.
I'm glad you identified it now, though. You could fly all your kids in Biz to Europe and feed/accommodate them for nearly two weeks for the non-essentials you guys spent in two months.
I'm trying to stay positive, but...JFC.
A rule I had with my ex was that if the purchase was over $200 we had to at least inform each other about it. It didn't stop everything that was bad, but at least it was some sort of boundary.

No, she needs to stop spending like she sells pharma products with 1/4 of the income as a teacher. $10/20k a year in a different parish doesn't fix the spending problem.
If people go broke sending their teens to Europe or Asia, I get it. That will benefit them later. But spending money going to Longhorn steakhouse and Cancun? Totally wasted in terms of future value.

I wouldn’t even know. My credit card bill is $3500 to $6,000 per month usually and Sam’s bill for groceries is around $650 for the month. Not sure what my wife’s credit card spend is but it’s got to be high with all the Amazon shite

If a family makes 35k a month is it really?
