After watching for EIGHTEEN months, I finally started a position in energy. Only about $1,300 all told, but it's a start.

Cost basis for VDE is around $88 and I bought MRO last week at $14.77
It's up 22% in five days

I can't see oil going much lower so I think any price under $90 is great for the energy etf.

Marathon Oil is just so beaten down. I bought it as a long term investment thinking that it'll either get bought out, or reach at least $30 again within the next 5 years.

I mean, look at the 5 year...can I really have gone wrong buying under $15? I did no fundamental analysis because I don't know how. I just read articles. It seems as healthy as any other oversold major energy company.

Thinking of putting in for MRO@15 and BP@30. I really wish I could get some feedback in my other post. I read a good article on Linn last week and now I cant find the damn thing.

ETA: Executed on the blip down 8/24. Time for a wild ride.
XOM 67.92
CVX 70.50
EOG 69.82
Finally closed out the last position today, EOG at +25%, after limit orders took out CVX at +30% and XOM at +25%. However, I'm kicking myself since CVX has gone up another $6/share since then.

Fortunately this was a way bigger bet than my EXXI parlay that lost ~50%.

I think there's a good chance we have another downward spike (maybe not quite as far down) unless oil prices improve before the end of the year. I'm not bold enough to short anything, though.

Liking my timing on jumping in, got XOM @72 and COP & RDS at 48. May jump in on FCX or take a gamble on LINE.

I have followed them for awhile but my verdict is still out on them. They are actually in the process of developing a new field.

I'm up a quick 20% on some XOM but seeing some articles about them. The investigation is probably crap, but I don't want drawn out hearings tanking my gains

I'll sell XOM in about 30 years. Don't care what happens between now and then

Ok. Maybe I have a little shorter horizon than you. If there are better investments out there (always are), why would I park money and "weather a storm"?

A quick 20% is nice- I might sell for a little while and see if it dips, but I wouldn't sit out for too long. I wish I bought more at $70 to bring my average down.

I def want them in my portfolio. I have some COP too. But if their insiders are selling there may be something bad about to come out

I'm not naieve, nothing will stick from any investigation. Ans XOM ain't going anywhere. But being talked about on the news every night can really mire a security, which is really all I care about

Especially since I think there is more pain on the horizon for all the big oils. There will be chances to get back in

Reinvesting dividends. No one knows what a stock will do in the future. I'll park it in a top company that will continue to raise their dividend for decades while reinvesting those dividends. I'm not a trader

The thing is, no one knows. People said oil was going into the 20s and missed out on dirt cheap prices a couple months back.

I agree. That's why if I end up being wrong about macro I still made a quick 20% in about a month. Maybe it never drops to my entry point ever again, that's fine

That was the day I bought this XOM I'm fixing to sell. Everyone else said "why buy now...everything is going in the shitter for weeks, huge correction, etc etc". After 2 days it stabilized and they were fricked
