Different goals. Not knocking you, we just have two different strategies. I'm not hands on every day so I will try to get a good starting yield, then let my investment compound quarterly until I decide to retire. No work needed on my end.

If you don't mind my asking, what size blocks are you buying these individual stocks to make it worth it? I just don't have enough at any one time to dump on an individual stock to make it worth it with commissions.

I normally wait until I can plop $2000 into a stock to lessen the commission hit.

I also have to sometimes tell myself that adding the commission to the stock price will likely be so insignificant 20+ years from now so I shouldn't even worry about it.

I don't know what the rest of you are seeing. I'm not going through the last five pages of what I figure as youthful optimism to form my opinion.

Oil isn't going back up to the price it was a year ago in the next year. Barring a sudden dropping of Barack's testicles and a war with Iran, oil probably doesn't get back up to $70 within the next year, more likely through the next six months.

If you're playing the long game of 15-20+ years, go for it. Now is the time to buy. If you're looking for an investment you can cash out in five years, find something better. If you can.

Well, it's about that time again. If XOM goes below 71 then I'm in. Anyone have their eye on any other oil stocks?

BP
EC
KMI
PSX
COP
RDS
CVX
RIG
ESV
I'm watching a lot of them.
VGENX is a good Mutual Fund, but you don't get a good DIV compared to XOM.

I bought xom on 8/24 but sold it since. The ups and downs of oil prices have me buying and selling quickly. You have to, you make a few bucks you gotta sell cause the next week it's down.
I bought CPE this week twice. $8.40 and $8.25. It's at least the 25th time I bought in 2015. I've been buying and selling betwee $6 and $10.25. That's a big spread. I've been making about $400 per week on this stock in 2015.

Was just thinking of this thread. Will buy back in right before rates and see what happens. If it tanks, I'll buy even more

Bought a slug of stone yesterday when it was down 20% to $5, I plan to be very disciplined and just buy and sell between 5-7 much like the poster above is doing with callon.

yeah I think it is time for a bump with the weak winter so far as oil barrels continuing to plummet - I mean are these oil stocks not an obvious long-term play? Something will happen, eventually, and oil will be expensive again right?
