At its height, with 3 kids at a very expensive private school, it was 14% of our gross income. But we did not sacrifice our retirement. We sacrificed things like country club memberships and second homes. It was worth it to us.

Similar for us. Glad we could do it for our kids.

How much are you making that you can pay 1% of gross for tuition? That’s either extremely cheap or you make a ton

Catholic HS in BRLA lists its 2024-2025 tuition on its website at under $14k. St Joseph’s Academy is $13k. Are there religious schools that cost more in the area?

That seems about on par for religious schools, but ridiculously cheap compared to private schools.

If you're making that much money what does 200k really change your life in the next 10-12 years. Not much. Do it and don't look back.

My kids went to private school k-8 in Houston ( St. Vincent Depaul) and public school for high school. It was worth the money. They were high achievers in big public high schools. They learn how to work really hard at at early age. Public elementary schools don't push you to work harder.

Actually look at scholarship rates and you may be able to drop the 529.

I feel like I'm getting off cheap, I pay not too much more than that for both of my kids.

That’s base tuition for Catholic and St Joe’s but by the time you add in all the fees, it’s about 15k.

Episcopal and Dunham are both in the 20s I’m pretty sure.

I send my kids to a good Catholic school in Houston, probably one of the ones your considering. Many have a strong Louisiana contingency and we've been very happy thus far. Just remember to apply early, the application process is very competitive post-COVID.

For what its worth, several friends of mine went to top private schools in Houston and could to send their kids to any private school in town. But they choose to send their kids to our Catholic school because the families seem more normal.

Good luck

But congrats on the multi-million a year income

I know that Strake Jesuit in Houston was about $20k like 15 years ago. I'm sure it's pushing $20k now...

If there is a classical private school anywhere nearby...check it out. There is an advantage to their Socratic method of teaching. My son started Latin in 3rd grade and Greek in 10th. His small private classical school really prepared him for college by requiring him to do difficult things.

This dude is making $600k asking the MT if 12% of that is worth sending his kids to private schools.

Paying 10-15% of your $600k is much different than 10-15% of your $100k. Unless you’re just being stupid with the money. Which is possible for Houston trying to keep up with Joneses.

Well, that's the entire cost of a useless college degree, or downpayments on two nice starter houses. For what value? Nigerians can go to the exact same school as "natives" in Alief in Houston, one group gets scholarships to A&M and become accountants or work in IT or finance, and the other pulls an Arik Gilbert if they even graduate.

Same school. And don't think private school kids aren't sexting, sending illegal pictures, or doing drugs, they're just doing more expensive drugs and taking pictures of their boobs with more expensive phones.
